What performance can I expect from this hard drive?
This hard drive has a read speed of 530MB/s and a write speed of 445MB/s. This means you’ll enjoy faster operating system start up, quicker program launches and smoother overall performance with games and multimedia applications. 256GB will give you enough storage for approximately 48 hours of high definition video or more than 140,000 photos.

How efficient is this SSD?
Thanks to its solid state design, the SanDisk SSD consumes less power and produces less heat than a mechanical HDD. This lightens the load on your PC's power supply and cooling system, lengthening your system's lifespan.

Why should I buy a solid state drive?
SSD hard drives are faster, more reliable and a lot more efficient than mechanical hard drives (HDD). With great durability, they are able to withstand knocks and shocks, making them ideal for use in laptops and netbooks. This doesn’t mean you can’t use them in computers - they provide a quick start up speed and a silent operation as well as being easy to install into your case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Speed up your laptop Good SSD, 256MB is now coming down to really affordable prices. The read/write speeds are what you need to look at and this drive is approaching the practical maximum for the SATA3 bus which is about 5.5MB/s so there is no bottle-neck on the bus. 256MB should be plenty for an onboard drive for a laptop, if you want to store a lot more than that you will have to do it on an external USB3 drive (you can get 4TB external for less than Ј150). If you are replacing a legacy hard drive in a laptop this may be too fast, but when you do eventually throw the laptop away remember to salvage the drive as it will still be current.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant I bought this with the SanDisk cloning software and kit. Three hours later my laptop is now running exceptionally fast. Boot-up times has been reduced to 1 minute and a pit had breathed new life into my laptop, improved efficiency and battery consumption. Can't recommend highly enough.

Does this HDD support BIOS security lock on motherboards that supports this feature ? This is not drive encryption but just refuses to allow read or write data without the password that is stored on the HDD. Many Thanks Stuart
Asked by: Stuart
This is not listed by Sandisk as a supported feature of the drive.
