Product overview

• 960GB internal solid state drive (SSD) giving you a large storage capacity for your computer
• 2.5 inch SATA III connection with a read speed of 550MB/s and a write speed of 500MB/s for a rapid data transfer and quick start up speed
• 91,000 input/output per second (IOPS)
• Perfect for use in laptops and notebooks to replace your existing hard drive with a faster, quieter version
• SDSSDHII-960G-G25

What can I expect from this SSD?
The larger input/output per second rate allows it to complete operations faster than most SSD drives while still keeping the efficiency to high level. With 960GB you are able to store approximately 200,000 pictures as well as a huge amount of video, leaving you with enough room to run your operating system.

How efficient is this drive?
With a lower power draw as well as no moving parts, this SanDisk Ultra II SSD creates less heat than a normal hard drive. Add in to this no sound or vibration and you have a drive that will be as quiet as a mouse as you use it.

How reliable are these kind of drives?
The way to measure these kind of drives is with failure rates. SSDs generally run for a mean time failure rate of two million hours, compared to the mean time failure rate 1.5 million hours of a HDD. This makes SSDs roughly 33% more reliable than HDDs and gives you peace of mind that your drive shouldn’t fail when you need it most.

What makes an SSD different from a normal hard drive?
A solid state drive comes with no moving parts, this makes it a lot quicker when completing actions, for example starting up your computer or opening files. A normal hard drive, or HDD, uses a mechanical arm with a read/write head to move around and read information from the right location. So, if you’re wanting to make the operation of your computer more streamlined, an SSD would be the choice for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a difference a SSD can make!! Incredibly impressed with this, I have a 2010 MacBook Pro which I have recently installed this in to replace the supplied 5400rpm HDD. Boot up times have gone from a little under a minute, to 6 seconds!!! Installation of OS X took less than 15 mins (used to take well over 45 before), Adobe responds lightning fast and the machine is operating as if all of today's bloat ware was designed for it. Installation is nice and simple, this is a real must for anyone looking to increase the speed of their aging MacBook Pro, but has already maxed out the RAM. Also thanks to the guys @RugbyMaplins, their knowledge was fantastic in helping me choose the best drive for my needs and machine suitability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SSD easy transfer and install I purchased both this SSD and the SanDisk transfer kit for my laptop. Ever so easy, (YouTube video helped) the transfer package has everything you need for a smooth data transplant from the old HDD to the new SSD. Once transferred, switch off power, remove battery then remove old HDD, observing how fixed. Once SSD installed, battery replaced and switched on all working as before but faster.......just one more thing, you can partition the drives at the program stage, so I have increased the OS from 35 GB (C drive) to 85 GB by reducing the D data drive purely for my work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gob-Smackingly Awesome I had an old Mac mini - 8 years old and non-functioning. I put this drive into it and did a clean install of OSX Yosemite, and it is now running so fast it is virtually indistinguishable from my brand new iMac. This is literally the best upgrade I have ever done on a computer. Note that changing the HD on a Mac Mini is not the easiest job - but there are videos on You Tube to show you how. I imagine the speed and reliability benefits it gives would apply to any computer. I was sufficiently impressed to swap out the perfectly good hard drive on my Macbook and was just as impressed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great upgrade for a Mac! I bought this SSD to upgrade my Mac book pro late 2011 having looked up how to speed up my aging Mac book in an attempt to avoid buying a new one. It was super easy to swap and install and has made my Mac book pro feel like a brand new computer! Boot up time has gone from around 5 mins to less than 30 seconds, and apps such as photo shop launch in seconds now now minutes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well Relatively cheap upgrade to a low cost laptop. Way cheaper than alternatives, maybe not the top performer but in normal daily use you won't be able to tell the difference.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not as Easy as expected Bought this on review saying easy to install. Plugged drive in and not recognised at all, nada. Disk had to be initialized before could be seen and of course no software on it. Downloaded Apricorn Ezy IV that is supposed to be on it, but wouldnt recognise drive. Had to download other cloning software, where still having issues. So for a quick job, it taking about 4 times longer than hoped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good and fast Used free version of easUS todo backup to clone my old drive. Worked without any problems. It is much faster than my old 5400 SATA. It also comes with a spacer in case your old disk drive is thicker.

Where is the software to copy from my old drive to new drive, it's not on the drive as I was told in store

Asked by: Granthar
The item quite clearly says 'SanDisk Ultra II SSD comes with Apricorn’s EZ GIG IV cloning software'.  That software isn't free

Hi, Can I use this ssd drive in my dell desktop which has a partitioned hard drive, 'C' for the OS and 'D' for data. Can I leave the data on D and just replace the C drive with the SSD

Asked by: Tejay
It's difficult to assure you 100% knowing nothing of the system you intend to place the drive in, but in theory you should be able to place a SSD drive into a computer and use it as the "Windows" bot drive, it would be advisable to install Windows from scratch on this new drive to take full advantage of all the benefits a SSD drive offers. You should then be able to see the data stored on the secondary drive.
