Simple to use cloud storage solution without the monthly fee
Organise all your family’s pictures, videos, music and important documents into one central location and access in and outside your home with this Seagate Personal Cloud NAS drive (manufacturer’s code: STCR4000200). It comes pre-installed a 4TB Seagate NAS hard drive disk (HDD) that is designed to cope with the 24/7 NAS environment. This gives plenty of space to store up to 31 hours of 4K video at 30 fps, 132 hours of 1080p video at 30 fps, 1,000 two-hour DVD films, 1.28 million digital photos or 66,400 hours of digital music. Adding new users to the Personal Cloud is as easy as sending an email, a dedicated folder is then created for them to personally use. The built-in print server also lets you share a print with users connected to the same network.

What are the various backups can I do?
Backup Windows and Mac computers automatically and continuously through the Seagate Dashboard or with Apple Time Machine on Mac computers. Off-site backups can be established too, ensuring if something were to happen in the area your NAS drive is in your files are still safe. A connected USB drive can be a target for a backup or have files from it backed up to the NAS drive. You can then configure backups to happen automatically when the drive is plugged in and have it auto-eject when the backup is finished. A network backup to another computer or NAS can be delivered too.

What’s more if you have a Dropbox or Google Drive account you can easily transfer and backup files to the Personal Cloud or transfer files from the Personal Cloud to the cloud service. This frees up space on the cloud which will save you money if your cloud service is running out of free storage space. Additionally, you can backup to Amazon S3, Baidu, Box, Strato HiDrive and Yandex.Disk cloud services, giving you a range of off-site cloud based locations to store your backups and files.

What apps can I use with this Seagate Personal Cloud?
Manage and access your digital content on the road using the Seagate Media app which can be installed on Android, iOS, Windows 8 tablets and Amazon Kindle. Through the Seagate Media app you can view your content by type or size for quick and easy navigation. You can even off-load and backup your pictures and videos that are stored on your smartphone or tablet, freeing up valuable and limited storage space so you can take more.

A Seagate program that can be installed on your computer is Sdrive, which allows you to access and use the NAS drive as if it were locally connected to the computer. Even if your computer were to be connected to a different Wi-Fi connection or mobile internet. To improve on the functionality even more, you can install third party apps, such as BitTorrent Sync, ElephantDrive, WordPress and ownCloud.

Can I stream the files stored?
The DLNA certification of this Personal Cloud means you can access files stored on it from computers, game consoles, Smart TVs, set top boxes and other DLNA certified devices on the same network. Additionally, with the iTunes server built-in you can stream your music to Windows or Mac computers using iTunes. This means you do not have to dedicate space on your computer to store your music collection.

Using the Seagate Media app on your smartphone or tablet gives you the ability to cast your content to a Chromecast, LG Smart TV or Roku player, so you can share what you are watching to the big screen in your home. The app can also be installed on a Roku player, Samsung smart TV or Blu-ray player with Smart Hub (2012 model or later) to enjoy easy browsing through your remote control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why the bad reviews? Really not sure about the bad reviews. I have owned one of these for over a year and its worked fantastically well. I can see the drive on every device in the house including IPad, Android phones and tablets. It's used daily to stream audio and video to numerous devices at the same time, including a Smart TV. It's really fast transferring data around the home network both wireless and hardwired. If you plug the unit directly into the router as it comes into the house you should have no problems and no set up. The software apps also allow me to access the drive via the internet and I used it to listen to my music collection from it and upload photos to it when I was in Spain. I have found it a far better unit than my MyCloud drive. My guess is that people who have purchased this product and had problems, may not be entirely sure on how to set up other devices to see the drive. There is lots of help online and YouTube if that's the case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best money I have ever spent I stream HD content with no issues whatsoever. I access from the TV in the living room, an IPhone, an IPad and a lap top. It even carries out its own set up. What more could you ask for? An absolute pleasure to own. I could not live without it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute rubbish So slow it is unusable most of the time. Streaming outside your house is only as good as your upload speed. I couldn't use the streaming features, and couldn't get Time Machine to complete a backup. I've taken the disk out and put it in a USB 3.0 housing - much quicker and much more useful - just can't use the DLNA stuff. Very disappointing don't waste your money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wont do what it promises Backs up files perfectly if you want to access them from the PC you did the backup from. But despite apps and access sites, I cant access all my files remotely when not at home. I can access the original back up, but not everything its backed up since. I also cant access files from my phone. I can access media files but I want to access ALL files not just music from my phone. I will be taking this back as it wont do what my old Seagate GoFlex drive could do
