Link the drive to your Facebook or Flickr account and all your photos can be downloaded right to your drive or even share your photos and videos to your social media straight from your device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from storage solution I bought it few years ago, loaded it with thousands of files, photos and mp4 files and still works and looks brand new, fast on transfer and easy to carry around with my laptop

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Supplied "Dashboard" software is poor Cumbersome software called "Dashboard" for backup. Lots of problems installing this software (has to be via the web) on windows xp - kept saying the file "seagate dashboard.msi" was faulty and stopped the installation. Had to repeat several downloads of "Seagate Dashboard Installer.exe" before it would finally work. After all this I discovered that when using this software to back up it does not preserve the original file date-time stamp - so when you look at the seagate drive all the backed-up files are stamped with the backup date not their original date of creation/editing - pretty useless if you are trying to find files based on how recent they are. The dashboard software is also primitive and limited with a very poor set of options. Also very memory hungry. Also, the "free" cloud storage claimed with this is not available to windows xp users.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect - Doing great job as back up drive! I bought this to use for for Time Machine backups with my MacBook Pro. I'd been having loads of problems using a Seagate NAS drive with Time Machine, and decided to go back to a simpler, more reliable set up - backing up to a drive plugged directly into my Mac, rather than backing up over WIFI. I choose this drive because it's small and portable, and has decent storage capacity. Worked first time, no messing about – now I have reliable back ups!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seagate Backup Plus, This has been a wonderful device for me to be able to backup all my devices and have the files, music and pictures in one place which is totally mobile. Easy to use and update and with 2 TB of memory has become a wonderful asset to me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far - so good. Easy to set up for Mac Time Machine, quiet and quick. As a design professional I need reliability up to now a decent low price option.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small Capacity! Now have a few of these, before the 4Tb version came out and now an 8TB one. Fast R/W, yes. But for storage of Photographs and Video, will run out of capacity pretty quickly. I now get the larger versions for backups.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seagate USB portable hard drive. I can't always get a TV signal on my boat so I store movies on this portable unit and I can watch at anytime. Great value.

Once the drive is full is there a way to instruct the software to overwrite the earliest backups or tell it only to backup certain files?

No .. house keeping and removal of unwanted data/backup should be performed manually on a regular basis.

compatible with macbook air?

Asked by: jwhpage
If you want to use the drive exclusively on a Mac then you will need to format the drive for use on a Mac. There are thousands of websites that explain how to do this. If you want to be able to share files between a PC and a Mac you can install the "PARAGON" driver, this program allows you to read and write to the drive using the PC NTFS file system. These files can then also be read by a PC.
