Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect - Doing great job as back up drive! I bought this to use for for Time Machine backups with my MacBook Pro. I'd been having loads of problems using a Seagate NAS drive with Time Machine, and decided to go back to a simpler, more reliable set up - backing up to a drive plugged directly into my Mac, rather than backing up over WIFI. I choose this drive because it's small and portable, and has decent storage capacity. Worked first time, no messing about – now I have reliable back ups!

Can I use this Seagate 4TB Portable Backup Plus Hard Drive USB 3.0 with my new 64bit Linux Mint Cinnamon 18 computer?

Asked by: MightyMeatyMatie
I think this unit will be fine with Linux Distirbutions. Linux should be able to run with a standard hard drive. This unit conrtains a single Seagate Laptop Thin 4TB hard drive with a USB3.0 Interface. I will test it with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and let everyone know what I see.

I have a 6year old computer using XP. I want to upgrade and save photos, a few files etc.,  what is the difference between USB 2 and USB3

Asked by: Hoodie
Some old motherboards would only have usb 1.0 that wouldn't provide as much power or transfer speed as 2.0 3.0.
