Monitor footage in 720p, 25 frames per second, resolution quality. This will enable the ability to pick out areas of focus, on the recorded image, in the finest of detail. Coupling that with sophisticated imaging technology, which allows the camera to work in a variety of lighting conditions, no activity such as illegal trespassers will be kept in the dark. It will also be able to provide excellent pictures of your business or property, in both day and night time, with its inbuilt IR lighting. The IP network connectabliity of the camera allows for quick and easy installation. You will only need to connect an Ethernet cable to either a local network or to the internet, instead of threading large amounts of both power and coaxial cabling (like you would do for analogue systems) through buildings.

This Sentient IP camera is designed for ease of use and simple installation, this is fully compatible with the Sentient range of Network Video Recorders (NVR) also available from Maplin (codes N68CD and N69CD).

These offer full plug and play installation and operation, with a single ethernet cable being required for each camera, carrying both power and data up to a maximum of 100 metres.

The cameras are also capable of being used as a standalone item although a 12V power supply is required for this purpose.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Decent picture, but set up is very difficult I bought two of these IP cameras to look over the front and back of the house. They were straightforward to set up and use whilst I was at home, and the picture quality is pretty good. Alarms for motion and tampering work, and can be set up within your web browser. However, setting up the cameras to be viewable away from your home network requires a lot of effort. It took me about 2 weekends to simply be able to view one camera on a webpage. Viewing two cameras on two separate webpages appears to be impossible, so I am now struggling with the surveillance software included and have not yet succeeded, after several more days, in making the cameras work in a way that is useful to me. The webpage viewer (which is simplest, and perfectly adequate if you just have one camera) requires a plugin which does not work with all browsers. Firefox, Chrome, and the newest version of IE were OK but if you do not have system administrator privileges on your computer, you are unlikely to be able to install the plugin. I couldn't make it work with Safari and some slightly older versions of IE. Help provided with the product is minimal and poorly translated. I have relied heavily on the advice given on forums set up by my Internet service provider. I am a reasonably competent computer user, and setting this up has been extremely challenging. Do not even consider it unless you are willing to engage with the detail of port forwarding and DDNS.

I would like to set this up, outside pointing at a bee hive. 1) Can I place this quite close and focus inches away? 2) If this is an ip camera, Can the stream be embedded into a web page? 3) Must software be used to see the stream beyond a web browser?

Asked by: cliff
The item may not focus very well as it is not designed to be used in this way. It has no out the box support for streaming directly to a website. This Sentient IP camera is designed for ease of use and simple installation, this is fully compatible with the Sentient range of Network Video Recorders (NVR) also available from Maplin (codes N68CD and N69CD).
