Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not too bad really, went in store to buy a Swann kit but was talked into this one. Was nervous at first but thought I'd give it a shot. The DVR menus have a more modern feel to them than I expected and seem simple to navigate. The cameras a tiny, but offer a good picture quality for the money. Hardly HD but for that you'd be buying a far more expensive IP system. I used the 4 cameras to replace 4 old black and white cameras and the DVR replaced an old time lapse VCR. Cheap/quick way of upgrading an existing old cctv system as I was able to re use all the existing cabling. The mobile app connected easily by scanning the QR code, but the app itself is a bit poor, I struggled to gain access to the recordings and could only watch live. However the windows pc app is much better and does everything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very feature rich product. Got it running very quickly. Lots to learn about the detailed configuration but once you have that sorted out then its a very capable bit of kit. Night vision is excellent, motion capture recording is also excellent as is the ability to define where that motion should occur to trigger that recording. Got it connecting to my phone over the local WiFi with ease. Have to work on the router to get true remote access but its a matter of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great CCTV kit I purchased this CCTV kit approx. three/four weeks ago and have installed it on my home. It worked immediately and produces clear images in colour in daylight and black and white at night. By connecting the DVR to the internet you can view all cameras live via free software app on a smart phone or Tablet (I use iPhone and iPad for this). Additionally a free service that is offered is the storage of images onto a Cloud server - Dropbox in this case is used. Pros: Simple to instal. Easy to set up. Everything is in the box. Free on line storage. Cons: Red flashing Hard Disk LED on the front of DVR is really annoying - I've covered it over with a tiny piece of black insulting tape. The camera to its connecting plugs cable length is fairly short - approx, 350mm. This means using an additional (not supplied) outdoor IP rated electrical joint box fixed near to the camera to allow the connection between camera cable to the longer main cable to be waterproof of the main cable run is located outdoors. Overall I'm very pleased with the set up and have now added a 5th camera and am considering adding a 6th one too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth for the money The kit was easy to install and remote view worked on my wifes mac book and iphone ..my pc and android phone seamlessly. I had doubts with the remote view at beginig but niw im glad with the choice. I'm a rookie DIYer and was able to install and setup the kit easily....so no complains, value for money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from internet viewing Set this up in a couple of hours, As for the free Sentient app, wont even scan th qr on the unit i have installed kview qr reader and kview. Put all info in manually and it says device not authorised every time. Finally got it working on a free app i used for another wifi camera. Another failure is the the ddns, i have set up a ddns year's ago and its still active for the for mentioned wifi cam. So i used this for the dvr box, after many many hours of playing with apps and ddns suppliers its still not working. My mate got the sentient pro 4 cam pack and the set up on that was so much better. So my advise spend a bit more money and get the pro unit it will save you hours. Ps remote viewing still not working

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good enough first kit with a few catches Had a long chat in the store as I was clueless about CCTV systems but this Sentient kit fitted my personal needs where not all the cameras would be mounted outside. So this kit feels better for smaller houses, garages or flats where the wires won't all be spread out in a haphazard way, or lease/tenancy agreements might stop you putting things on outside walls of the main dwelling, but the 18m lengths let you route the cables as you like. The catches are the manuals on CD, making you print out 110+ pages if you want a physical copy. If you're only viewing the cameras on a tablet at home then you wouldn't need to be so bothered about having just another device with an app on the Wi-Fi, but check your ISP's terms and conditions about hacking if the M-Link requires port forwarding and other intermediate to advanced tasks on your router to make smartphone streaming work as well (leaving aside how secure you can make your Android device in the first place). 2nd catch, my DVR unit was only happy connecting with a VGA connection out of the box. You're given a HDMI cable but it wouldn't give me a picture on a TV (not tested with a PC monitor yet). I'm making the assumption that the HDMI would need to be separately enabled in the setup menu but haven't found it yet. The picture is sharp enough through VGA so I'll check with the tech support how to sort this or if it's something that will cause a return. The first weekly reboot (default setting that brings up the startup wizard) caused the clock to need a reset as well, something else I'm assuming was standard - my second reboot by choice kept the right time. 3rd catch, you can only mass delete rather than picking the one channel's camera feed. That's fine if you'd backed up and wanted to put a bigger hard drive in it, but can be annoying if you wanted keep relevant recordings but get rid of the tests from when you were learning the setup or adding one single camera that hadn't been fixed in place before connection. So you have to have USB sticks at the ready to do your own backups as needed because everything will go when you're making space or you leave it to be wiped over after X days. To be fair this is why the assumption was that you would hook up all the cameras from the beginning and it would be less of an issue until you decided to add more than the four in the box. For a first kit this has been OK so far but if you're a total beginner then read the manual properly and head to the forums to make sure it's not you rather than the kit that has a problem! Also make sure you buy yourself a CCTV sign at the same time as the kit, if you're not going to just make one yourself. Maplin don't want any reference to price but suffice to say when I bought mine (Spring 2015) you generally got a wider spread of choice on their own-brand Sentient kit, so that was another reason I stuck with them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from brought this product, picture quality is poor even in hd, doesn't really connect to iPhone via 3G/4G without there being an issue every time! Overall a poor quality product

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The cameras are superb, but if you want to access them remotely, forget it.... quote from manual ... "PPPoE: The Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) is a network protocol for encapsulating Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) frames inside Ethernet frames. This network protocol allows the device to be directly connected using a DSL modem." Does anyone reading that actually understand what it even means, or how to do this? according to the manual... "If your network connection is Static, specify the static IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS 1/DNS 2 IP addresses." ....So I hope that's all clear now? I teach ICT and have a computing degree but I have absolutely no idea what any of that even means let alone how to do it. So unless you have a professional network engineer on hand who actually understands all this stuff, then forget it. mere mortals have no chance.
