What can you build with this kit?
Ever wondered exactly how a motor works? With this self-assembly motor you can see all the pieces working and experiment changing some variables such as the position of the magnets and input polarity. This easy to assemble motor will run on voltages as low as 1.5V or a standard AA battery or up to 12V. The brushes should be lubricated with oil before starting the experiment.

What does this teach about motors?
Motors are all around us, from giant marine motors to single molecule electric motors. As the current is passed through a commutator in a magnetic field it will move if it can. Experiment using just one magnet or different types of magnets at different distances from the motor and see what happens. Change the direction of the motor and show that it is related to the polarity of the power supply. You can even power a LED or buzzer by getting the motor up to speed and very quickly moving from a power input to a LED or other output.
