A solar battery charger for big size vehicles such as caravans, motor homes, boats which has 15W of power and has been designed specifically to prevent battery drain from 12 volt car batteries.

This is ideal for your car, motorcycle, snowmobile or your caravan. This product has been designed to work with 12V batteries, to help manage battery drain during every season. It can be used for cars, caravans and boats or any other device using a 12V battery. Batteries naturally drain power, especially in cold conditions. If they are allowed to become flat, they may never regain full power.

Suction cups are part of the package and can be attached to the charger to enable you to mount the charger where it can best collect sunlight.

Interchangeable connectors are available, which include alligator battery clamps and a cigarette lighter plug. In some makes of vehicles, the cigarette lighter may not operate when the ignition is turned off. In such cases, you can connect the charger directly on to the battery by using the alligator battery clamps and cable provided. There is a flashing blue charging LED indicator which lets you know whether the vehicle is being charged and the whole system is working. The outer housing is made of durable ABS plastic. It also has a blocking diode to prevent reverse charging, which makes this product extremely useful.

Keep your battery topped up with solar power. This charger ensures that your battery will work even when the day is overcast or dull.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I bought this item in June2012 and it did what it said on the box. However, I have just had to return mine, while cleaning it today I noticed the glass panel had cracked the full width at the halfway point along it's length. There are only fixing mounts at either end of the panel and nothing to support it in the middle, where mine cracked. I believe this makes the panel liable to flex and the glass crack with heavy wind, rain, snow or ice as the plastic surround is not rigid enough with it's fixings just at either end, 98cm between supports is predictably not enough. When I get my replacement one I will put a support batten under the half way point to prevent the risk of this type of damage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solar Powered 12V 15W Battery Charger I bought an earlier version of this panel in all aspects the same but with a 12 watt output. I fitted it to my yacht near to the hatch so it faces straight up to the sky. Its wired to a regulator and two leisure batteries via a battery switch. If the switch is turned off to stop any load, I return to the boat to find the batteries fully charged every time. With the boat on a sea mooring exposed to full weather the panel seems to be working fine. I'm so pleased with it I bought another one and perfect for trickle charging when used with a regulator, safe to leave alone and you'll never need to charge your batteries. With this set up I can charge my radio, phone, chartplotter and operate all boat electrics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice piece of kit. Somewhat expensive in area per watt compared to Mono or Poly panels, but a very reliable and worthy panel for Thin Film especially where space isn't an issue. I have had four of these in service for a couple of years and they are still maintaining 13-14Wp in bright sunlight. Very effective in overcast conditions where crystaline panels don't have the output. To respond to the reviewer who said these panels are not for them....the problem lies with your vehicle, not the panel! An easy fix...rewire your lighter socket directly (via a fuse) to a permanent 12v feed, not ignition switched.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product, a lot stronger build than some of the solar panels I have seen on the market! (I have owned this item for over a year and it's still going strong!) Very simple to install. I have mine setup on top of a a stable to recharge a car battery I have setup, powering a few 12v maintenance inspection lights which are wired to the battery via a fuse and separate switch which provide ample light for seeing to the horse late at night. I would highly recommend this product to anyone wanting a simple/low-cost solution to slowly trickle charging a battery. Ideal for camper vans/caravans/ keeping car batteries maintained for long periods of inactivity - this item can easily pay for itself over time. Great value for money! Rob.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've had one of these connected to a battery supplying power to a 12v water pump now for about 4 years, it's mounted externally on a static caravan. Has given me perfect service with never any need to do additional charging. I have now ordered another one to supply power to a touring caravan as I like to be away from the crowds sitting there on 240v. Great value for money and does the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have two of these connected to a charge controller and two lead acid batteries for shed power/lighting. They have sat on the roof of my shed for years. Besides needing the odd clean, or scraping off the snow and ice (!), and repositioning when strong winds blow them off (must get down to securing them) they have been faultless. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I am the published author of a book on solar power (The Solar Electricity Handbook) and as such have a reasonable amount of experience with solar panels. I have to say I like this product. Whilst you can buy smaller panels to give the same output, this amorphous panel works well in all conditions - not just on bright sunny days. It is well made and comes with all the usual connections for connecting up to most things. The only extra connector it would be useful to have is a car cigarette lighter female connector - get one of those as well and you can use the panel to charge up mobile phones, sat nav devices and the like really quickly - unlike most of the portable solar chargers on the market, which can take days to provide a charge. If you only require a modest power output then this is a good product to go for - shed lighting, charging up a caravan battery, even to build a small grid-fallback system for home lighting if you buy two or three of them - this is a good panel to start from. The weakest link is the power connector going into the top of the frame, and for this reason I have only given the unit four stars out of five. It is technically not fully weather proof although I have had two panels outside now for the past two years without any problems (I have shielded the connectors to give a little extra protection).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This unit is well built though the interconnecting cables will require extra protection if used anywhere other than indoors. The connectors are also not high quality. Like most things, you get what you pay for and if you can maintain/replace connectors as required then this unit will do what you expect. The panel itself seems to be of good quality.

would this keep my 110 amp caravan battery topped up during winter storage, do i need a regulator to stop over charging ??

Asked by: paul6940
Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee full compatibility for this item. A regulator would be needed

I have recently purchased one of these solar chargers for my Land Rover. As this panel will be connected to only a single 12v car battery, via the cigarette lighter socket, do I also need a solar regulator and if so, what Maplin product would be best?

Asked by: JohnJo
Typically a regulator isn't needed, the panel produces a relatively small amount of power and is intended to keep a vehicle battery topped up not used. It is recommended to check the vehicle and it's charge level on a regular basis, you should never leave a battery charging unattended for long periods of time.

Put mine up today. Wondered should it have a blue light to indicate charging ?

Asked by: Kyle
No this does not have any light to confirm the charge, to check you would need to check the voltage with a multimeter.

my charger does not seem to work. Can you tell me when the blue light is supposed to be flashing?  Mine flashes all the time yet as soon as I connect it to my cig lighter point the blue light stops, plus it seems to drain my battery. #confused

Asked by: Jac767
The blue light is normally an indicator that the panel is generating power. it may be a fault with the item is it is draining power as the diode is built to stop this.
