Product overview

• Covert pressure mat for stairs which detect when someone has walked over it, providing a great addition for a security system

Why would this pressure mat be a good addition to my security system?
The stair pressure mat is a perfect addition to a security system or used as a sensor for other operations. The pressure mat is of a standard stair step size and three millimetres thick, giving you a mat that will not only sense when there has been an intruder in the house but will also do so discreetly.

What can I use the stair pressure mat for?
The mat activates an external alarm system when a weight of over 25kg has been applied to the surface of it. This means that if it is placed under carpet or rubberised matting the pressure mat would still be able detect a person walking over it. Furthermore the pressure mat has an environmental rating of IP64, which stops dust from getting into the mat and improves the longevity of it. This makes the pressure mat a versatile sensor that can be placed at various places around the home and not just under a stair step.

What would I need to connect this up to a security system?
The best way to connect this up to your security system would be to run a four core alarm cable from the control panel (e.g. Order Code XR89W) to the pressure mat. Then to adjoin the four core cable from the control panel to the cables from the mat with a junction box.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I had to send this back as I thought it came with a plug. I thought it was cheap and that was reason. Not made very clear on the web site.

does it make a noise when someone treads on it

Depending on how it is installed, there should be little or no audio unless connected into a buzzer or alarm system.

I want to use the pressure mat to activate LED lights on the stairs..... The mat would be top & bottom so that once stepped on, the stairs will be lit up. Will this do the job or do I need a different pressure switch or similar.

Asked by: hands4u
Yes but you would need to design the circuit yourself. The mat works as a simple push to make switch, when pressure is applied the circuit is closed, it remains open at all other times.

How do I identify which wire is which? I did not receive any packaging or product details with my order.

Asked by: vonticklehoffen
The pressure mat has 4 wires .... When tested with a multi meter for continuity 2 of the wires will have a permanent circuit regardless of if the mat has pressure ... these are the tamper circuit and are designed to send your system into alarm if cut. The other two will switch between open and closed circuit as pressure is applied and released on the mat. These are the actual pressure switch and are for connection into the actual alarm circuit.
