What does this security kit provide me with?
The 16 channel security system kit provides 24-hour protection and security for your home or business. It includes 12 1080p cameras which are IP66 weatherproof rated and can be installed indoors or outdoors. Each camera has a fantastic 80-degree viewing angle, both horizontally and vertically, providing you with brilliant coverage of your property.

The kit provides everything you will need to get your CCTV system installed, including 18 metres (60 feet) of cabling per camera, a power adapter and splitter, a mouse and some theft deterrent stickers. The kit includes the relevant cables required to set your CCTV system up to your TV, and to connect your DVR to your router for remote viewing.

How much can I record with this CCTV kit?
The DVR-4580 comes pre-installed with a 2TB hard drive, which can be taken out and replaced with up to a 4TB drive, doubling your storage capacity. The 2TB hard drive can provide you with an incredible 30 days of recording and with the kit’s motion-detect feature, you can record only when movement is picked up which will extend this considerably.

Can I view the cameras remotely?
The HomeSafe View app lets you keep an eye on your security wherever you are, giving you peace of mind whether you are at home or away – and even if you’re abroad. Ensure your DVR is connected to the internet using the cables provided, and install the app on your smartphone or tablet using mobile data or WiFi. You can then remotely connect to the kit, giving you a live video feed from each camera, and the ability to playback stored recordings – all on your smartphone. The HomeSafe View app is compatible with iOS and Android devices, as well as Windows and Mac.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected There are a few sites disparaging Swann systems online, but after buying this one I was very impressed. Compared to my other HD cctv camera, the images are very high quality. The installation was a simple connect of wires and download of app. Everything configured itself and you could instantly view them when out and about. The software to play back recordings is very responsive and easy to use. The only down side I found was that both a 1amp and a 2amp adapter are provided with no indication which one to use for what. Not on the site specs, not written on the back of the power port or cameras, no where. Does the cameras take .5amp each and the box 2amp? Or all 1amp each? God knows.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it says it will and does it well I bought this about a month ago and fitted it in about half a day. You may struggle getting the wires from the camera into the house depending where you route the wires. All my equipment is in the loft out the way so I just fed the wires under the eves. You cant really go wrong with the wiring, everything only fits where it should. The picture quality is good in the day and very reasonable in the dark. The app that you can use on your phone makes the picture look grainy but when you view it on a screen its really crisp. The wide angle cameras really do make a big difference over the 90 degree cameras most cctv systems come with. Overall i'm impressed with the system and would recommend it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So complex. I installed this just a short time ago so have not had time to fully understand all the features of which it is capable. The initial setting up was reasonably straightforward except that my email provider has refused to accept emailed notifications from the DVR. Now need to spend time with the downloaded full manual to fully assess the features and either readjust the initial setting up or switch off those that have no relevance to my needs. I guess the features allow the system to be uprated if and when needed but they make a base model too complex. Lovely pictures of excellent quality. Local Maplin staff are very helpful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good pictures It took me two days to install, including an extra dome camera, The only difficult bit was routing the cables. With the coax connectors on the leads you need a 16mm hole minimum. Putting this though brick walls was tricky and messy. Once all connected the set up was very simple.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality Installed them around 6 weeks ago, really easy to set up and can't believe the quality of the images, even at night. Highly recommend these!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A decent solution to cover the your property in both day and nigh We’ve had a few security problems on our street in 2017 and were looking for something to cover the whole front of the house. This kit seemed just right. It included almost everything needed to setup and was pretty straightforward to setup. The fixing screws and wall plugs provided were a little small for the brick wall we were attaching to but once the cameras were up they were solid. There's some amount of tilt and twisting possible to change the viewing angle but they can't be moved left and right by more than a few degrees. Plugging the data and power cables into the box was easy and there's a great diagram in the instructions that made it very simple. Once it's up and running you can watch it via the Android and iOS apps or via your PC. The Android and iOS apps turned out to be very simple to use and once I got it sorted the PC worked fine as well. I'd been worried about the quality of the image that the cameras would give but was very pleasantly surprised. The field of view is decently wide and the level of details is impressive. At night time the cameras emit infrared and you get a monochrome but still very usable picture. Swann quotes the range at night at 40 metres and I'd call it a little less than that but still more than enough to cover the front of a house. The control box can be set to record between specific times, manually if you're watching it or when it detects motion. Swann also gets good points for including several tools to look at the health of the hard disk - recording continuously is tough on a hard disk and having it break and lose your recordings would be frustrating. Playback is simple letting you search by date and time or look on a timeline to see when the clumps of activity are. The kit is a decent answer to most home security camera questions. It'll let you get decent coverage on the front of a building day and night. You’ll need to consider if two cameras give you enough coverage but if they do it’s a good choice.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from terrible night vision was advise by staff good cameras. daylight view is very good night vision is shocking showed the staff in store the feed of a lad smashing window so when i really needed it let me down terribly night vision is a mix of heat and ir . the staff understood when i showed them video agreed it must be faulty as picture so bad and showed me another system twice the price . going to just get my money back instead was advise by a good friend to get nvr as it digital not analogue plus easier to pull Ethernet cables through walls as most nvr systems use poe (power over Ethernet) and the cameras handle picture quality and pass it to the network video recorder as apposed to analogue cameras send picture to digital video recorder to code. also swann and lorex customer service and apps suck big time check scores on the doors in play and i store only get 2.3 in play store app freezes all the time

Do I need to connect the box to a monitor or tv or is it done wirelessly?

Asked by: Adelem
For initial set up a TV/monitor is required to set the configuration of the DVR, password ,time recording schedule etc, but once configured can be accessed remote;y via apps on smart devices and computers as long as the DVR is hard wired to a router to give it is internet connection.

I need to mount the camera on a vertical wall next to some patio doors and have it point 90° to see the space in front of the door. Do the cameras support being this flexible?

Asked by: Phil
The camera has 3 adjustable points The is a lockable ring adjust on the bracket itself allowing 360º rotation A Hinge on the Arm allows 180º adjustment The point at where the neck of the arm enters the body of the camera is also adjustable through 180º This give a full range of movement to position the camera at any direction/angle. Word of note : When positioning a camera close to a wall try to avoid filling the image with the wall it is mounted on, this will inevitably cause the IR to reflect back from the wall at night and effectively dazzle the camera meaning it cannot see well in the dark.

The Swann 4 channel 2 camera kit includes 2 mainpower adaptors: one is OUTPUT 12v 2000mA, & one is OUTPUT 1000mA. As I see it, one goes to the DVR unit and one goes to the cameras. Which is which? (Thanks for great advice on 'powerline' unit.)

Asked by: Tony
To avoid any confusion the cameras power supply typically has a RED LANYARD with "Camera Power Only" on it. If not the 1000 mA supply would be for the 2 cameras

Does DVR with its internal ITB SATA HDD need to be installed flat (as shown in the pictures in the Manual), or can it be installed vertically? (I am thinking of installing it in a protective cabinet but difficult to find something deep enough.)

Asked by: Tony
Typically the unit is mounted flat as shown, the design f the case has holes on the base and left and right edges to allow best airflow around the unit and keep it cool. Standing it vertically on one edge would compromise this and possibly lead to overheat and shorten the life expectancy of the unit.

In order to obtain 'live viewing' via Android smartphone or tablet, does the DVR need an internet connection? Assuming that in my case, an internet connection is not possible, what are my 'live viewing' options?

Asked by: Tony
Without internet connectivity your live viewing options would be NILL
