What features does my IP Camera have?

The Swann ADS-446 camera is a great indoor IP Camera. The built-in pan and tilt functionality which gives you the ability to turn the camera up to 350 degree and tilt it 100 degrees to get a great view of the surrounding area. The camera has a, a variable viewing angle of 30-60 50 degrees. As well as great coverage the HD 720p image with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution is good enough to pick up the fine details such as people’s faces and number plates. You can also hear and record sounds through the Swann ADS-446 with its one way audio and with its nine infra-red LEDs you can continue recording at night up to 5m away, the camera switching to black and white to improve the contrast.

How do I connect and record with this camera?

This camera can be viewed remotely through the use of a free Swann App. The camera is Wi-Fi compatible so no more worrying about video cables it does however require a power cable. The Swann ADS-446 gives you the options of an on board microSD Slot (microSD not included) and a secure Cloud server to record to when activated.

Easy to set up

Everything you need to install this camera is included in the box including an Ethernet cable for set up. With its wide base this camera can be set up on most flat surfaces, placing it in the middle of a room to take advantage of the pan function.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good, with some drawbacks Was pretty straightforward to get running... BUT Despite it stating on the box there is a PC app... there isn't. There isn't a program, there is nothing you can do on the PC or Mac other than view through the web, which does NOT have the Pan and Tilt functionality. The only apps available are the iphone or android. Basically if you have neither of these smartphones you will not be able to control the camera. Luckily, my wife has an ipad so we can still use it there, but it's very disappointing. Even on the Maplin listing it states the software CD is included... when in fact all that is on the CD is a pdf version of the manual which comes in the box. I've contacted swann to hear their feedback, but nothing so far. I'd rate this higher if either the web interface allowed the Pan and Tilt control, or if they released a windows or windows phone app.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy set up and great to use Got the camera yesterday. Out of the box and up and running in 10 mins. Load the app turn on the camera, follow the instructions on the app and you can not go wrong. The app can be used to control all of the camera settings (even when you are away from home). This is a great plug and play camera. Been watching the dogs all morning. Highly recommended if you do not want to mess around with wiring. If you want to use it on your PC you can, but you will not get the pan and tilt function, just go to myswann cloud video and log in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy To Set Up Going away we wanted to check up on our home and cat (we have also arranged a cat sitter for daily visits). This was really easy to set up. Took camera out of box and plugged in for power. Downloaded app to Iphone 6+, set up account, verification email came through in about 60secs, then pressed the camera "+" icon, selected wireless only (we have BT ) and entered our key (on the hub if you pull out the tab at the back/side depending which version you have). This generates a Q code (a square graphic which is a bit like a bar code) for the camera to read. This was the only tricky bit - as the phone 6+ is a bit big I had to hold it/prop it up around 6" from the camera not 4" to 5" as was recommended. I left the camera propped up for about 60secs, then it double beeped and hey presto I could now see it on the iPhone Swanncloud app where I renamed it to lounge! Pan tilt all work fine so will probably be buying another one so we can check up on our Pussy cat in the kitchen too! Coreena

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Keep Clear I bought this as my existing Izon camera had no night vision and the idea of being able to pan was appealing but this camera is a nightmare to set up. For the first hour or so every time I ran the iPhone app (no PC or Mac apps) i got a screen saying it could not find a token and would go no further. Nothing in the VERY brief and badly laid out guide mentioned a token. The CD ( a mini on e so I had to dig out an old CD drawer laptop to run it) only contained the same useless manual. Tried the Swann website but most support pages led to a "page not found". Tried phoning and after an hour of music while fiddling with the app it eventually went past the "token" and showed a QR code to point the camera at. A wasted hour followed trying to get past " problem with camera setting" screen but eventually it worked. Impression then was very positive so walk mounted the camera and reconnected the power. All I had then on the app was `'camera offline". `tried phoning Swann again and after 45 minutes of music spoke to a guy who told me I was doing everything right and the problem was the Swann server that did not work very well. I eventually got it working again by redoing the set up a number of times and then tried pulling the plug for a couple of seconds to simulate a power cut. Back to square one with the camera constantly off line. Nice piece of kit BUT it is totally unfit for purpose if a few seconds of power cut means it stops working until the whole set up is done again. Just to be sure all this was not a short term problem I trued again the next day. After five or six attempts I reinstalled the camera with the iPhone app. Then pulled the plug for a second and back to camera off-line. Two hours later it is still showing off line. My Izon camera is now back on line. It takes about two minutes to install and survives a power cut in a couple of minutes with no intervention from me. I thought Swann was a quality CCTV company so hope this is not a typical example of their proeducts.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Server issues. I purchased two of these cameras, one for my home the other for my business. Both cameras were set up within minutes no problems at all, the problems arose after a couple of weeks Swann has serious server issues both cams on seperate networks have been affected firstly by lagging ie no live streaming or sound and picture only being refreshed every seven seconds and now they have both been offline for four days. The sale of these cameras should be pulled till Swann get this sorted. Swanns tech support after several emails eventually inform me "they are working on their network problems" but they are not keeping there customers updated, I would have appreciated an email to inform me they their server had went down, these are after all security cameras! If this is not resolved soon I'll have no choice but to return them as not fit for purpose. So far it's not been a brilliant experience!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really amazing so far I dont understand the previous review, my experience has been great, everything is dead easy, from the set up to the camera app. If the power cuts it goes back online after few seconds, I dont understand why the others users have so much problems. Fantastic for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not the best, but there is a way around the TERRIBLE software... I have owned this for quite some time. I have managed to stop using the SWANN application for the phone and I am now able to use the website (the IP address of the camera) and small piece of software installed on a laptop (which is always on). The IP address of the camera allow you to log into the device and you can do a lot there - including save onto the MicroSD card slot any motion (via still images). In addition, you can move the camera about etc all via the Web page. The camera is a rebranded HikVision camera - and if you look for instructions on a HikVision camera you will realise that the interface is EXACTLY the same except for the branding. The camera quality is good, the images are clear and it is able to hook into things like old software called Vitamin D and the like without too much issue. The most annoying thing I found was that if there was a power cut, the camera would NOT reconnect back to the WiFi and instead it would keep BEEPING. I managed to resolve that by telling the camera the WIFI number (cant remember the exact name - not the wifi key, but a six or so digit number). That sorted it out.

Asked by: golfry
The camera can be panned and tilted via the app, the unit does not have an optical zoom but the app allows you so zoom into the image by using a pinch/pincer movement. This device utilises The SwannCloud Mobile App Full details of how the app works can be found in the app instruction manual we have provided on the listing. https://maplindownloads.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/swanncloudhdappmanual-9052.pdf

Would the motorised movement of the camera or the infra red be likely to trigger my alarm sensors whilst I am out?  Bearing in mind they would be pointing at it be it across the room some 6m away!

Asked by: Djdemon
Unfortunately it is likely that the movement of the camera could trigger your PIR sensors depending on how sensitive they are.

How does the camera detect movement or is it sending video on a continuous basis to the router. Is the IP address security at least equal to a PC and is there a password.
