What does this security kit provide me with?
This four-channel security system provides 24-hour protection and security for your home or business. It includes two 4MP cameras, with the option to add a further two cameras. The cameras are IP66 weatherproof rated and can be installed indoors or outdoors. Each camera has a brilliant 75-degree viewing angle, both horizontally and vertically, providing you with brilliant coverage of your property.

The kit provides everything you will need to get your CCTV system installed, including 18 metres (60 feet) of cabling per camera, a power adapter, a mouse and some theft deterrent stickers. The kit includes the relevant cables required to set your CCTV system up to your TV and to connect your NVR to your router for remote viewing.

How much can I record with this CCTV Kit?
The DVR4-4700 comes preinstalled with a 1TB hard drive, which can be taken out and replaced with a drive up to 4TB, more than doubling your storage capacity. The 1TB hard drive can provide you with 15 days of recording and with the kit's motion-detect feature, you can record only when movement is picked up which will extend this considerably.

Can I view the cameras remotely?
The SwannView Link app lets you keep an eye on your security kit wherever you are, giving you peace of mind whether you are at home or away - and even if you're abroad. Ensure your DVR is connected to the internet using the cables provided, and install the app on your smartphone or tablet using mobile data or Wi-Fi. You can then remotely connect to the kit, giving you a live video feed from each camera. You also have the ability to playback stored recordings - all on your smartphone. The SwannView Link app is compatible with iOS and Android devices, as well as Windows and Mac.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Noisy recorder The recorder is quite noisy, so pick a location that won't keep you awake at night. The camera connections are very bulky, the kit really should include junction boxes as you need them. Maplin N92NH will suffice if you enlarge a cut out. Setup is plug and play for a basic recorder and camera setup. Daylight viewing is excellent, nighttime is OK. Setting blanked out and movement detect areas is very easy. Overall excellent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good but! It's a shame the fan is so noisy , I really don't think it's necessary in most UK locations. I admit to unplugging it and the CPU runs at only 2c above room temperature. I will monitor the CPU when more cameras are fitted. I'm sure a quieter whisper fan could be fitted.

NVR systems seem a lot dearer than DVR. Apart from the power to cameras being delivered over a single Ethernet cable, can you please explain the differences that justify the extra cost and their impact on the average domestic user. Many thanks

Asked by: AlanS
The difference between a NVR and DVR can be confusing to many. To work out the puzzle, you need to have a clear understanding of what exactly is a DVR/ NVR first. DVR stands for digital video recorder and NVR stands for network video recorder. Since they are both responsible for the video recording as the name suggests, what’s the difference between them? Technically, the two recorders differ in the way they process the video recording. The DVR is an electronic device, the input of which is from a direct connection to the camera and the video is encoded and processed at the DVR. Compared with DVR, the NVR is a software program and it inputs the videos from network. The video on an NVR is firstly encoded and processed at the camera, then streamed to the NVR for storage or remote viewing. Based on their different working patterns, the NVR and DVR have to use different type of cameras, which reflects the biggest difference between these two types of video recorders. A DVR uses analog security cameras (cctv cameras) that are connected via a coax cable, while an NVR uses IP cameras (standalone image capturing devices) that are transmitted via a network cable.

to receive the live feed using my iphone, does the DVR need to be wired to my router or is it a wireless signal ?

Asked by: Banksie
It would need to be wired directly to the router. These systems do not have wireless capability.

Just bought this camera kit, how do I get audio from the cameras, do I need a separate microphone and cable?

Asked by: StephenD
Yes this would require a microphone for audio that connects to the cameras , or a camera with built in audio. Miniature Bullet CCTV Powered Microphone Code: DV71N

How long will a 1TB hard drive record for if 4 cameras are connected?

Asked by: Stephen C
At full resolution, Max FPS and permanently recording 24/7 you will get approximately 10 days. However if you lower the FPS and set to recorded only when motion is detected the HDD could hold well over a months worth of footage.

Are these cameras able to clearly see vehicle number plates so that they can be read?

Asked by: popstar62
It may be possible if the vehicle is optimally placed and the lighting conditions are exactly right but as a general rule with fixed cameras the ability to read a vehicle plate will depend on a great many factors, how close the vehicle is , day/night, weather and lighting conditions, the position of the plate on the vehicle, the angle of incidence to the camera, and speed the vehicle is moving. The only way to absolutely guarantee being able to capture a vehicle registration would be to have a human operator controlling a pan/tilt zoom camera who can position the camera manually to effectively and clearly read the plate.

Hi, don't know if you can answer this but do I need to gain any kind of permission from council or anyone if I wanted to install this to monitor my motorcycle parked on a public road in front of my house?

Asked by: Paul
As the cameras are installed on your own property you should not need permission,
