Rated 2 out of 5 by from Failing seals Having bought one of these cameras about of years ago and had it set up to capture wildlife. I had found that the picture quality was better than more expensive cameras that I had previously owned. As a result of the good video quality, I decided to buy two more cameras and place them in other locations. Unfortunately after twelve months of owning these cameras, I had noticed that condensation started forming within all three of cameras and in turn started effecting the videos corrupting 50%-60% of the files. Obviously the seals within the cameras are not good enough to keep them outdoors and this explains the low price of the product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Really surprised at the quality of pictures, quality of daylight video fantastic, even night time video excellent, easy to set up, battery's last months, I put a 8gb sd card in and still plenty of room, however this is really designed for nature work, as I bought it as a security camera for my front drive, although picture quality is really good, there is a time lapse from where the PIR picks up movement of about 4 seconds, eg, so as someone walks towards it senses them no problem but by the time it starts recording it just catches the back of them walking away, a good product, but not really for security.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's good fun catching the neighbours cats, the odd fox, oh and crows poking about. The viewing angle ideally would be wider. The locking clasps can be a pain. But at least they do the job intended. Picture quality is good, no complaints there. The tripod fixing thread is very handy. Something so trivial can be so important. Strange to think that the whole world uses the same thread in all cameras and assessories that have one fitted. Good old British quarter inch Whitworth thread. My tight fisted nature loving neighbour is impressed with the camera. No way will he be buying one though.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I was very impressed with my Outback until I set it up and tested it. The picture quality was excellent and the set up procedure straightforward BUT it is totally useless for surveillance as the range of the motion detector is only about 3 metres and (so Swann told me in a slow response to my email) there is a minimum delay of 5 seconds between triggering and the taking of a picture. Consequently it is excellent for capturing images of the backs of people leaving my front door but incapable of taking pictures of the faces of people approaching the same.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from For two weeks now, it has been outside on a fence post to see how sensitive the PIR is and how good the picture quality is. It certainly works but needs something fairly large to trigger the PIR. So far there have been a couple of night shots of the local fox but anything smaller does not trigger it - not even birds a couple of metres away. There seem to be false triggers when the sun occasionally comes out from behind the clouds! Getting the SD card in and out can be a bit fiddly and needs nimble fingers. The mounting strap is not for me but I have successfully used it with a universal camera mount screwed into the thread underneath. The weather proofed DC socket on the bottom is not explained (or even mentioned) in the manual. I shall persevere. Generally, it's a good little device.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bit on the bulky side . Tested the various functions and found can only set a minimum of 1 minute for time lapse (TL) which is not great as a lot can happen in a minute! Battery life is suspect if you are using high frequency TL, I used Energiser Lithiums and they lasted a day! Supposedly using PIR activation prolongs battery . You have to reconfigure settings if you take the batteries out! Tested night time PIR which was usable ; picture quality even on LO (low) setting is surprisingly good in daylight and slightly less so with night time shots. Overall a good piece of kit but needs some functionality improvements. And as you more likely to use this outside, security for the device needs looking at.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought one of these to monitor activity in the garden at night. Price, with voucher, beat the other internet providers and I could collect the same day. Well done Maplin. Easy to set up, using the instructions to clarify some of the terms used, and pictures at night quite clear. Can also be used for time lapse, interesting for looking at plant growth etc. A very handy device to play with or for the serious user.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A decent camera. Quality is good, charge batteries last a fair while. Easy to set up. The stills are decent. Night vision is less than daytime range, and if you're looking to catch a moving subject, bear in mind it takes 3 seconds from activation to recording, so it's possible it will miss the intended target. A good enough piece of kit for me to be buying a second one.

All I want is a camera which tells me what is eating the hedgehog food at night for a sensible price. Will this do the trick? I don't need video.

Asked by: crispy
Yes this will work fine in your intended application.

Hi, how long can it record for and how much would 32GB hold?

Asked by: Livvy
The amount of time would be limited only by the card, 32gb would hold around 30 hours of footage.

How long does the battery last? I guess I'm thinking in standby mode, since it would run down a lot faster when taking photos. Also, is it possible to connect up to a 12v supply for indefinite life?

Asked by: grannybuttons
Set & forget with long lasting battery operation (uses 4 x AA, not included) & motion triggered recording for extended monitoring over several months. The item has no support for connecting to a 12v supply.
