Rated 3 out of 5 by from This switch does not work with compact flourescent (low energy bulbs) they continually flicker when swith is off- Manual & Auto. This is because there is always a slight connection between the COm and both L1 & L2 terminals. Seems it needs a diode/choke to cure this. It is fine with tungsten & halogen bulbs

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is basically a good device. However, I had to change two units because they became dysfunctional after two separate bulb failures (the failures tripped the house RCD and the Light Switch stopped working!). I have now changed bulbs to Halogen long-life type and don't expect further problems. Maplin were excellent in changing the unit twice - but there IS a good manufacturers guarantee anyway. Am thinking of buying another unit shortly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We have two of these and they are a brilliant. Previously tried light bulb dawn to dusk type fittings and they were not so good with bulb flickering and a shortened light bulb life. We've had these switches for about 3 years now and about to get one for a friend. They've worked well on timer though too dark where they are located to use on photcell option. A fantastic product. Highly recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Have purchased 2 of these. It is important that the current does not exceed the recommended load. Have used this in the hall which has candle bulbs in the light fitting. When the bulb blows, the fuse goes and the light switch blows, one actually exploded. Neither worked for long, have gone back to manual switching, can not recommend this unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product This product is great just make sure you follow the specs, please also note that low energy and LED are separate class brackets and are not the same as LED are diodes not filaments and the chemistry to ignite the bulbs are far different than filaments, plus LED emit up to x10 current than their base load which can cause many 2 wire switches to fail. The ZV700B that is current should fix the problem with spikes/bulbs blowing via feedback or too much current on the circuit. then again you should not blame the unit failing for current related or 3rd party i.e. bulbs blowing as quality of bulbs differ greatly I use OSRAM brand myself which has fail-safe features for when the bulb does blow not to cause a backlash of current to render the product faulty.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't use their screws! Be warned: the screws for the wire connectors and for screwing the unit into the wall fixing are such poor quality that they broke off (wire - so no chance of me removing the switch and reusing) or the thread rubbed (on the wall fixing). I had to get the whole light switchunit out of the wall: now that will need replastering and repainting. It took me an hour to hacksaw through the screws and sort this. I would therefore suggest you check length of the fixing screws and cut them sort to avoid the thread going if they hit the back plate. Annoyed that to turn light on when you are in 'auto' mode you have to open the cover and press a button. Some good ideas such as random lighting times in auto mode. Second unit I put in went in in a few minutes so hope you learn from my error!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have used this security switch for at least 3 years without any trouble. it is important not to exceed the stated voltage. like all gadgets involving electronics special attention must be paid to the setting up procedure.

Lighting type: Permissible load
Filament: 40-300W
Low energy (electronic and iron ballast): 20-150W
Fluorescent: 18-76W
Low voltage: 20-200W
Discharge lighting (SON and metal halide): Not suitable

I want to use this to control 4 outside lights with a maximum wattage of 280W across all but using low energy equivalent LEDs of 32W across all light ... will this work in this application?

Asked by: Lloyd
Any controller that uses a 2w replacement wall switch type installation is not compatible with LED lighting products. This is because the switch has no neutral connection and needs to pass a continual residual current through the lamp to maintain operation. This small residual current is not an issue for traditional bulbs, but causes LED lights to flash on and off. TimeGuard make an add on unit 'Intelligent Load' device ZV900 to allow their smart switches to be used with LED lighting. Maplin do not sell the ZV900. Your application would be supported using the ZV900, but only up to a LED load of 200W max.

I have a Timeguard ZV700. With two 5w LED bulbs, the lights rapidly flash on and off even when the light switch is switched to 'off'. It works fine on incandescent bulbs. Is this a fault? Or do current ZV700s also show the problem?

Asked by: ASDF
LED's are not listed as compatible with this product.

Is this the Timeguard ZV700 as shown in the picture or is it the ZV700B that superceeds the ZV700?

Asked by: Splatt
This is a ZV700.
