What is this powerline kit for?
With this powerline kit, you can expand your Wi-Fi network using your home's existing power lines. Plug in the TP-WPA8630 to transmit an internet connection to any area in your home that experiences weak Wi-Fi signal. Experience wireless speeds of up to 1,200Mbps, made up of the 867Mbps on the 5GHz band and 300Mbps on the 2.4GHz band.

A unified powerline network supports seamless video streaming, action-packed online gaming, and stable web browsing on tablets, laptops and smartphones in hard-to-reach places throughout your home.

The integrated power socket means you can still get power from the outlet for your other devices. Just plug the TP-WPA8630 into the wall outlet and plug your device into the integrated socket the same way you would with a normal wall outlet. Equipped with three Gigabit Ethernet ports, the TP-WPA8630 allows you to provide wired internet connections to your high performance devices with a standard network cable.

In a particularly useful feature, you can turn the blinking LED indicators off at night using the iOS and Android smartphone and tablet app, and use the same app to turn them back on again in the morning.

What is the technology behind the fast Wi-Fi speeds?
Fast Wi-Fi speeds are possible thanks to the advanced HomePlug AV2 standard which allows the extender to support 2x2 MIMO with Beamforming Technology. This provides users with ultra-fast data transfer speeds. The 2x2 MIMO establishes multiple simultaneous connections, allowing you to enjoy higher speeds and greater stability. Beamforming Technology also offers the benefit of improved coverage throughout the home, while targeting devices which use Wi-Fi.

How easy it is to set up a powerline network?
Setting up this powerline kit is very quick and can be done in three simple steps. First, plug the TL-PA8010P into the wall and use an Ethernet cable to connect it to the router. The plug the TL-WPA8630P into the desired power outlet where you receive a weak Wi-Fi signal. Should the powerline adapters lose pairing, simply press the ‘Pair’ button on both adapters to create a secure network and you are done.

Powerline adapters need to be connected to the same electrical circuit for them to pair and send Wi-Fi signals. To add more extenders to your powerline network, just press the pair button on both devices. Once this process is complete you can manage the entire powerline network from any device and the challenges will be synchronised on all network devices automatically.

How does powerline work?
Powerline technology transfers data using the electrical wiring of the household. This allows for a single powerline plug to be connected directly to a router and plugged into a mains socket. This plug will then communicate to all of the other plugs connected to the same electricity supply. This kit comes with two powerline adapter plugs , a main adapter that plugs into your router and a second that extends your Wi-Fi, which also has three network ports to connect devices.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Working well - easy set-up I first got the TL-PA9020P from Maplin because of the great user comments, but disappointment set in when I found no Wi-Fi as stated on the web site. Maplin only offered to replace these with no apology for misinformation on their web site, it's STILL advertising to "Expand your Wi-Fi network using your home's existing power lines. Plug in the TL-PA9020P to transmit an internet connection to any area in your home that experiences weak Wi-Fi signal." I was going to expand my network with these AV1200 Gigabit Pass-through Powerline AC Wi-Fi Kit and they are very good and with the TL-PA9020P AV2000 running slightly slower my network now covers my whole house to a garage at the bottom of the garden.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple set up, perfect results. Fed up with my wife complaining that her i-pad wouldn't work in the bedroom, garden etc. I bit the bullet and purchased the TP-Link AV1200 Kit from Maplin on-line, it arrived within a couple of days, the set up was very simple and only took a few minutes. I have tried these range extenders in the past and found them very fussy to set up and not particularly efficient in operation but this latest technology is brilliant. Thoroughly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed I had almost no WiFi in the furthest room on the ground floor (my router is on the first floor and the problematic room had a very weak 2.4GHz signal and no 5GHz at all) until I got the TL-WPA8630P KIT. It was easy to setup: plugin, connect to router, press pair on both devices, press WPS on the router and WiFi on the WiFi enabled one - voila - done! Moved the WiFi device to the ground floor (NOT to the problematic room) and had a good 5GHz connection with full download speed. Before my connection was jumping forth and back between 2.4GHz WiFi and 3G mobile. First speedtest of wired copying was a bit above 100Mbps - there I expected a bit more as the connection between devices was stated RX:600 / TX:400 Mbps in the WebGUI Admin - will check again but in general I am satisfied as it suffices my needs. Can recommend the device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well Getting started with this product was very simple and took very little effort, just click two buttons and go. My home network range was boosted throughout my house and also the Ethernet ports provided my gaming PC with an amazing connection that I previously wasn't able to receive, this is a 10/10 product and I would recommend it to anyone. Additionally, I tested this product in a fairly modern house and an older Victorian house with thick walls, the kit had no problem with things like thick walls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First class customer service I ordered a TP-Link kit to try and improve WiFi and general connectivity around the house. Our internal walls are brick, so there are 'dead' areas where WiFi will not reach. The kit claimed to utilise the domestic wiring as a conduit for Ethernet connection, one unit installed near to and connected by Ethernet to the router, the other at the remote location where it could be used to connect a device via an Ethernet cable, in addition to which it supposedly sets up a WiFi 'hotspot'. After taking some stats regarding upload and download speeds, I followed the instructions and installed and set up the TP-Link equipment. Over the next two hours response time was marginally better, but drop outs in the bad areas were just as frequent. But most surprising, connecting via the TP-Link in good WiFi areas started experiencing loss of internet connection, something that has not been a problem before. Obviously the kit does not do what it says on the tin, so, as advised by Maplin customer service, I returned the kit to my local Maplin store, explained the situation, and with the minimum of fuss, a full refund was issued. The way Maplin dealt with this situation has ensured that I will have no problem shopping there again. The fact the kit did not work was not their fault, but they behaved as you would expect a reputable company to. Well done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to set up and works well Works well even using extension cables from sockets (which is supposed to degrade signal). Was very easy to set up. from my router I can log in to the extender via its ip address to change settings (or wirelessly with - this worked well. Wireless signal seems good. No drop outs. Option for a guest hotspot too. Recommended

I have a garden office with its own small fuse board / breaker inside, this then runs to a switch on the main consumer unit inside the house. The socket with the router runs to one of the other switches on the consumer unit. Will this adapter work?

Asked by: Stef
No, this would not be suitable, unfortunately.

I want "master" unit that plugs into my router and 3 other units to connect to the "master" unit, all with WiFi. A mains socket on each unit is not important. Can you please advise exactly what do I need to purchase.
