Smart home automation straight out of the box
Smart plugs are great for controlling your appliances and devices. They’re affordable, easy to use and can even save you money on electricity bills.

The TP-Link HS100 can work as a standalone item because it doesn’t require a hub to work. To get started, you simply add one to your home and connect it to your home WiFi network – then you’re good to go. This is fantastic if you’re looking for an introduction into smart home automation to see how much it can benefit you, and also if you want to set up a network that works independently from your current system.

Easily manage your smart home from anywhere
The TP-Link Smart Plug is easy to set up and compatible with the free Kasa app, available for your smartphone, which allows you to turn your devices on or off wherever you are – as long as you have internet. You can create schedules to power your connected device at specific times, which means you can set your lights to come on at dusk and turn off at dawn for example. With ‘away’ mode in the app, you can set your devices to turn on and off at different times – which will help deter intruders and make them think that someone is home. The built-in countdown timer feature gives you peace of mind, as when enabled it will automatically turn your appliance off after a predetermined amount of time. This means you’ll never leave your straighteners or iron switched on again.

Voice control for your devices when you are home
With Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control, you can control your devices using just your voice. Simply pair the TP-Link HS100 Smart Plugs with your Amazon Echo and Google Home (sold separately) and issue commands – as simple as it is fun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value. Try one! I now have three of these. Were very hard to get over Xmas/New Year but now back in stock. Great way to try out Smart Home stuff. As stated no server required just plug in and go. I use one on an Oil Radiator and it has the added bonus of setting up on off times. Also as stated work VERY well with an Amazon Dot. Overall they are very reliable I always seem able to connect via the phone app or using the Dot. Other devices I have, often loose connections. Buy one and try out smart home tech!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great bit of kit that works exactly as described. This enables you to control any electrical item via an app on your phone, where ever you may be. This is extremely useful when you are late or away from home unexpectedly and you can still operate lamps to deter unwanted guests! The app is very stable and easy to use. Also, great service from Maplin, they emailed me when stock was available and delivered it within two days.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Product, Unclear Warranry The plug itself is amazing, just what I needed. Managed to conenct to Alexa, just need to remember to allow remote connections on the KASA app. The warranty information is not clear. The box tells me to register for a warranty but the website it links to doesn't work. The official Tp-Link website says I need to register for the full 3 year warranty but I am told over the phone this isn't the case. Rating only 4 starts as it took me 10 minutes to speak to somebody about the warranty

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TP-Link Smart Socket I wanted this socket to be controlled by my Amazon Echo (Alexa). It was a bit tricky to set up but it now works perfectly. The socket is well designed and the quality is excellent. This was the first on-line order that I;ve placed with Maplin. I was very impressed. Their communication was good and the delivery was rapid. I would buy more of these sockets and get them from Maplin.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from no 5 ghz wireless connection This took me a long time to set up till I realised that it only worked on 2.4ghz and not 5ghz, my tablet that I was trying to set up on is only 5ghz, it went through the setup procedure well, but would not accept my modem password. I then tried to set this up with my phone on 2.4ghz and it all went well. its working as it should now, and it connected to my dot with no problem. I have a 2 smartthings plugs as well and there seems to be no difference with the performance, but a bit cheaper. Should have advised on this in the item description, one star less because of this.

If I plug this into a 4 gang adapter, will it obstruct the adjacent sockets?

Asked by: Rodger
They are quite wide. We had a small extention lead with this plugged in and we couldn't plug anything with a large plug on it next to the tp link. Normal pugs weren't too much of a problem with it though.

I note that only 1800 watts is allowed on these plugs. Can you advise if there is a similar item with a higher rating - I too want to control a heater for my garden office from the house?

Asked by: Geck60
1800w / 230v = 7.8A but in a previous answer it is quoted by maplins at 13A. i would not trust this.....

Hi, can this be plugged directly to a standard wall socket , and multi surge protector extension plugged to tp link plug where my tv and sky box are plugged and be left on Stand by mode 24/7 constantly? Do these also have surge protectors

Asked by: Morris
this product is 10A rated not 13A, BS standards for internal sockets are 13A this product can handle 230V X 10A 2300W .... to use 13A would not be advisable

Does it boost your WiFi

This isn't a Wi-Fi booster, it's a device to allow you to turn electrical items on/off remotely via a smartphone app.

When not in use does the smart plug need to be plugged into a socket to prevent an internal battery discharging?

Asked by: Ianw
The battery will keep any settings for the device but the charge will dissipate if left unplugged for long periods of time.
