Is this powerline kit right for me?
The TP-Link TL-PA4010PKIT will give you a transfer speed of up to 500Mbps between the two plugs and contains everything that you will need in the box. This powerline kit is simple to use. Its plug and play feature means you can quickly plug in the powerline adapters, connecting one to your router and the other to your networked device and setup is complete. The single network port will allow you connect your networked device, such as your laptop, desktop PC, games console, smart TV, networked hard drive or even your smart fridge directly to your router for internet access. The kit is plug and play to make setup quick and simple. The pass-through technology allows you to power an additional device by plugging it into the rear of the powerline plug, meaning that you do not lose a mains socket when using this kit.

How could I use this powerline kit?
The powerline kit is designed for one plug to connect directly to your network router while the other is connected to a networked device. Compatible network devices include laptops, PCs, gaming consoles, smart TVs, network hard drives, media players and CCTV kits. It allows that device to connect directly to the internet without using long network cables.

How does powerline work?
Powerline technology transfers data using the electrical wiring of the household. This allows for a single powerline plug to be connected directly to a router and plugged into a mains socket. This plug will then communicate to all of the other plugs connected to the same electricity supply. This kit comes with a single powerline plug that connects to a router and another plug that will connect to your networked device and allow it to communicate to your router over the mains. The powerline adapters will communicate with each other when connected directly to mains sockets on the same fuse board. Additional receivers, including receivers that give a wireless signal, are sold separately and can connect additional devices to your router. For best results, use any powerline receiver capable of sending up to 500Mbps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Works very well and simple to use. In response to an earlier review mentioning the limitation of the CAT5 connection only being 100Mbs (so the system allows up to 500Mbs transmission between units but the CAT5 cable connection is only 100Mbs) is a little unfair. If you consider that standard blu ray data rate is around 40Mbs you could still have two full HD 1080p stream at full blu ray quality without any difficulty running over the same PowerLine adapter. And typically if you rip Blu Rays to a media server for convenience, you do tend to reduce the data rate a little too as saving full quality Blu Ray at somewhere between 17-27Gb each may be a bit excessive. So full HD video absolutely no problem, even 4K should be doable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Arrived very quick. I plugged the items in two separate mains outlets, and set the security button. They straight away doubled the speed I was getting with a Wi Fi connection. It saved me scrambling in my loft space and running a wire the length of my bungalow. Thanks Maplin.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Works, but very slow Plugged in and works. All lights are green, but only get 100Mbps, not 500Mbps. so not as fast as the WIFI i was looking at moving from. Waste of money, go for something better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product. I used them to connect my CCTV DVR to my network. I can now view the cameras remotely on my mobile phone and saved me running a cable from the router to the DVR.

I use the TL-WPA4220KIT. Can I use BOTH of these as mere 'extenders' to simulate TL-WPA4220 using my existing adapter TL-PA4010. (I am unable to find a pass-through version of TL-WPA4220 Extender)

I need to connect ethernet from my garage to my hub in the house. I seem to remember reading that most of these devices are only reliable if the mains sockets are on the same ring main which mine are most definately not. Will these work for me?
