Is this powerline kit right for me?
This kit will give you a transfer speed of up to 200Mbps between the two plugs and includes everything that you will need in the box. This powerline kit is simple to use – its plug and play feature means that you can quickly plug in the powerline adapters, connecting one to your router and the other to your networked device, and setup is complete. The included network socket will allow you to connect a range of networked devices, such as your laptop, desktop PC, games console, smart TV, networked hard drive or even your smart fridge, directly to your internet without any additional equipment.

How does the built-in Wi-Fi work?
The built-in wireless hotspot outputs a B, G and N signal – which gives your wireless devices speeds of up to 300Mbps, depending on signal strength and obstacles such as walls. This will give you an improved transfer speed over Wi-Fi and improve your surfing experience. The powerline hotspots have cloning technology which will mimic your routers name and password, allowing your wireless devices to automatically stay connected to your Wi-Fi whether it is through the router or through the hotspot. This kit will allow you to connect even more devices to your network as well as to extend your Wi-Fi throughout your home or office without expensive equipment.

How could I use this powerline kit?
The powerline kit is designed for one plug to connect directly to your network router while the other is connected to a networked device. Compatible network devices include laptops, PCs, gaming consoles, smart TVs, network hard drives, media players and CCTV kits. It allows that device to connect directly to the internet without using long network cables. Additional receivers, including receivers that give a wireless signal, are sold separately and can connect additional devices to your router. For the best results, use any powerline receiver capable of sending up to 200Mbps.

How does powerline work?
Powerline technology transfers data using the electrical wiring of the household. A single powerline plug is connected directly to a router and plugged into a mains socket. This plug then communicates to all of the other plugs on to the same electricity supply. This kit comes with a single powerline plug that connects to a router, and another plug that will connect to your networked device and allow it to communicate to your router over the mains. The powerline adapters will communicate with each other when connected directly to mains sockets on the same fuse board.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I already have the TP Link 500 twin pack and bought this to complete a huge home network. The sales assistant in the store was reluctant and said he wasn't sure if the 200/300 would work with my existing 500 set. I was unsure myself as the packaging explanations weren't giving anything away either. After the assistant explained that Maplin offer a 28 day no quibble money back guarantee - I was sold! Plugged in the units once home and they all work fantastic and I also found setting up the security on the wi-fi bit exceptionally easy! Part of my new network is in a completely separate building and works fine as its all from the same electricity meter! Although the instructions state that the units won't work well on extension cables, I've had no probs here either... Absolutely brilliant! Would highly recommend this product to anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life saver - when figured out how to install! Bought this on advice of Maplin staff in Norwich. I had had to move my router next to my new on-demand set top box from Talk Talk. As a result of the router being moved, i had no WiFi signal in most of rest of house. This extender works brilliantly - when you've figured out how to install it! Actually it was v straightforward - it really is plug and play, but i didn't realise that the password was not my router password but the one printed in miniscule lettering on the extender itself. I emailed TP-link support (email on box) and they replied next morning and confirmed where to find password. As soon as i had that - perfect. No interruption to WiFi signal or degradation of service and i can now use my laptop wirelessly in every room of the house - even tho i only have the extender in the kitchen - it gives coverage to all of the back of the house. This isn't cheap but well worth the money has the extender has made a very frustrating online experience easy again. Maplin staff also very helpful and knowledgeable - and it was my first purchase from them. I will be using them again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good piece of kit Used this to link my Log cabin to the router, Strong signal in the cabin so we have WiFi in there, in the garden and more or less all over now. I'm very pleased with it. Just spend a little time setting the wireless end up regarding security and you should have no problems. It will appear in your wireless connections as a separate connection from your router.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just bought a TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless N Powerline Extender Starter Kit. I wouldn't say its difficult to set up -Its actually impossible. Can’t get beyond plugging in. The management utility screen doesn’t come up and trying to manually run autorun .exe from the CD says configuration file cannot be found. Looks like a basic progamme error because the congig file apperas to be on the CD.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No customer support Couldn't work out how to install it as there are 2 separate instructions without much explanation. Phoned the support number (advertised as 24/7 ) several times and waited but got no reply so can't use it. So whole product rendered useless by complete lack of customer support.

We have this wifi booster, but have to move it from room with lap top to living room with Smart TV - depending on what we're using. Can I buy a 2nd booster to put near TV? - if so, does it have to be complete set?

Asked by: k8instoke
Any powerline plug would be compatible with your original, so you could buy a single one from any brand and connect it with your current network.
