Rated 5 out of 5 by from TVMan rocks! Very impressive (and tiny)! It's a Freeview box + wifi + video recorder in a matchbox! In Hotspot mode I watched live tv in one room on a laptop from the TVMan's built-in wifi at the far end of the house. (Best used with external rooftop aerial). (Yet to try WLAN or iPad). Also easy to set recordings using EPG (like a PVR). (It needs a microSD card - not supplied. And a mains adaptor - not supplied - would be useful so you don't need to leave it powered from a usb). Bad points? One small gripe - box says you don't need the internet but you do initially to download the free app or it won't work. Very pleased! Bob

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not bad This has an internal battery which claims to last 4h, and is far smaller than the size quoted in the questions. It requires an app for iOS, Android, Windows or Apple. There's no connection info for other OS's, or basic browsers. The antenna is tiny, but works. You can position the receiver in a window, or high up, while viewing elsewhere, which lets you make the most of it. For recording you'll need an SD card. The PC app lets you listen to radio channels too, but the android phone and tablet apps only seem to allow TV.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from PS Forgot to mention in the above review, the device will only connect to one viewer. You can't tune it and have more than one person watch on different devices.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from In The Main It Does What It Says On The Box! Had this as a present for Xmas for use when camping. I'm running it with my Samsung Tab3, works really well and is extremely sensitive at picking up channels where I've failed in the past using other portable DVBT equipment. It works best when placing it on a window sill closest to your local transmitter. Wi-Fi strength is not as strong as a home router, but that is to be expected. It is supplied with an external aerial adaptor, which I use when running it on my desk purely because although it picks up some channels, it wont pick them all up. Continual run battery life on a full charge is about 5 hours, if you connect it to a USB power source obviously you can run it indefinitely. Negatives. 1 - At present it will not work on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) but the manufacturer has promised an app update is imminent (9/1/15). 2 - It has an EPG allowing you to select and record programs (provided you have installed a Micro SD card) but you have to leave the app running, because if you shut the app down the wi-fi drops and the unit itself shuts down shortly afterwards, resulting in just a few minutes of recorded TV. You can only record the program being watched (to be expected). 3 - No radio stations are possible on the Android app, only on the download PC program, but again this may be resolved in future app updates. As most will probably use this just to casually catch the odd TV program when travelling, it more than fits the bill, its sensitivity being a big plus as it is small size, TV in your pocket.

How do I update the firmware?  I have downloaded the firmware tool as instructed on to my laptop.

Asked by: Magsie
Unfortunately Maplin are unable to advise on the modification, redesign or upgrade of units I am afraid (as this would affect your product warranty). I would suggest that you contact the device manufacturer for assistance with this task. Typically the download will come with instructions for use. It is imperative to ensure you are using the correct firmware upgrade for your device and follow any upgrade procedure correctly, failure to do so can render your device unusable.
