What makes this multimeter different?
This multimeter is a clamp meter which allows you to test for voltage and current on an electrical wire. It is possible to test for the presence of voltage without making contact on the wire – as this tester senses the magnetic field caused by the current flow. This is therefore a safer way of testing for a live wire. The auto ranging function of this multimeter means you won’t even need to set a range to test for, it will do that for you. The ‘data hold’ button allows you to continue displaying the reading even after removing the test probes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I use many different types of clamp meters and some very expensive, but I find this tester compact and very good and is up there with the expensive ones.

Will this measure DC current? most clamp meters are AC only using a current transformer in the clamp.

Asked by: wideboy
Yes, this will do DC as well as AC via the clamp, range settings are 40A and 400A. Full details on this method can be found on page 30 of the manual, linked below. http://52.50.15.149/Downloads/user-manual-10546

Will this measure dc current via the clamp only (i.e. without connecting test prods)? If so, over what range please?

I was about to buy this to use on a 12V boat system when I noticed that it says the minimum current it can measure is 40A. Since this is a huge figure and way higher than any normal 12V or 240V application, I thought I'd just check if it's correct. Thanks

Asked by: Martin
All the answers given on line before this agree with the spec, which suggests min 40A. Went back into Edinburgh shop and spoke to bloke who said that's rubbish, so I bought it. Online answers and spec. are wrong (E.g. by Dominic, below). You need to change the description of this item.
