Rated 2 out of 5 by from There's nowhere to store the heavy leads although the probes do go into the clips on the red outer plastic holding case. There's no backlight as shown in the images on this website, on the box and mentioned in the instructions. The meter doesn't seem to want to zero immediately and takes several seconds to settle down. The 10A current setting is for DC only and isn't fused. Apparently you can only measure current for a maximum of 10 seconds and then not again for 15 minutes. It's also much bigger than I expected - not really palm-sized.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very handy, compact meter. Having the clips on the sides to hold the probes is an added bonus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After having FLUKE nicked wanted cheap meter for quick tests. Excellent product. Doesn't 0 immediately, but doesn't hunt like other supposed pro MM when taking readings. Small palm size, stand, hook and probe holders either side of the protective case adds to its flexibility. No Back light as shown in photo, but if its that dark, you won't see what you are working on anyway ! For accuracy and quick response will use new FLUKE, but I can now keep it in a safe place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good! I bought this 6 years ago for a project on the foundation year of my engineering degree. Now, 6 years later I am working as an electrical and electronic design engineer and i am still using it regularly. Today we were horsing around in the office and we tried out some calibration gear on it. We got a 0.1% tolerance, 250 ohm resistor and measured it with this meter - measured exactly 250 ohms. Then we tried out a fluke 4-20mA calibration unit on it, and found the DC current measurement accurate to 90 micro-ohms. Don't get me wrong, this isn't top-spec lab equipment, but if you want a good meter that you can just chuck into your toolbox and not care if it gets stolen, wet or broken - well this is it!

Can I check an A/C to D/C adapter I have for DC polarity, that is if I connect the meter probes one way and then the other way will it display plus and then minus volts?

Asked by: paulb
Yes this would be suitable for that use.

Why does the product description say that the UT30B includes a backlight? I bought one from you (for £15!) and it does NOT have a backlight.

Asked by: Anon
We apologise for the incorrect information, the UT30BL would have the back light, we will look to get this information corrected as soon as possible.

Can you tell me which settings I put the meter on to do continunity tests via the two probes

Asked by: Sprinterman
You can test continuity by using the ohm setting will tell you if the connection through the device is complete or if it has opened and is no longer usable. For instance, if you place one of the test leads on one side of a fuse and the other lead on the other side of the fuse, you should show a short circuit or 0 ohms. If your meter shows infinite resistance, the wire has no continuity.

I need to test the voltage of mains power in sockets around the home. I dont want to pay for the expense of an electrician, will this do the job ?

Asked by: Hel20
Although this item will measure voltages up too 500v if you have any doubts on how to check your mains voltage we would strongly recommend hiring a professional to do so as this can be extremely, dangerous if done incorrectly and should not really be attempted by someone who is not a qualified electrician.
