Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super piece of kit. This is a great scanner, works well with the supplied rubber duck antenna but for a much better experience plug in a external aerial. All i can say is READ the manual, its not over complicated and I found straight forward enough. I havent experienced any adjacent frequency bleed over despite having some fairly strong signals close to me. Great scanner with Unidens great build quality, 5 stars all round.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The instructions are not very clear and I have an on going query with UNIDEN as to the accuracy in certain sections. One of Maplin's staff and I were scratching our heads over the "CLOSE COUPLE" instruction and still could not make any sense of it. There are other areas where it could be a lot better. I owned a scanner many years ago and expected the modern ones to be more sensitive but I have found it is little better and I am going to get a external aerial for this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Little Radio Now I have had this radio a few weeks and learnt how to use the features I have found it an invaluable asset. The close capture feature feature works really well for finding local action. I admit it take a little use to get used to all the features but once learnt how to turn off and select the various bands its quite sensitive for a handheld. Yes I would recomend the radio as for good value for money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First Scanner Following an unsuccessful purchase of a 'cheapo' scanner, I bit the bullet and bought this scanner. Initially I thought that I would be taking it back as the user manual, whilst very informative is not at all user friendly. The manual is fine if you know about scanners. I don`t. After a lot of frustrating trial and error (codes), I figured out that you need to program the scanner to scan the channels first. You can`t simply 'scan airband' or whatever. Once figuring this out I entered the frequencies that I wanted to scan, and BINGO!! I could hear stuff. The supplied rubber aerial is only good if you are at an airport. Invest in a larger one. You won`t regret the extra investment. I live in Cardiff, and was listening to the Vulcan talking to Bristol Radar, and can even pick up Bristol and Cardiff when at Swansea Airport. I guess this scanner proves the old adage. Buy cheap buy twice.

I have one of these scanners. If you put the scanner into close call it will scan around and does often pick police channels up. I live in the UK and it picks police up here so it should do in the US

When you use close call will it only pick up frequencys you have programmed?

As standard the Close Call feature will automatically display the frequency of any strong transmission in range, not just those stored. However you can set the frequency band to limit possible results.
