This easy-to-install card enables you to add revolutionary new USB 3.0 ports to any desktop computer with a PCI Express slot, delivering the data transfer rates up to ten times faster than USB 2.0 with optimized power efficiency.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, and works fine if you install the correct drivers. Be careful, as there are two separate downloadable drivers depending on which type of power plug you use with the card! It won't work if you choose the wrong one. Another thing to watch out for is 3TB USB 3 drives are not compatible with windows 7 or lower, image backup. (Windows 8 should be ok) This is due to a different cluster size setup on the new drives, though there are other drive imaging softwares available apart from Windows Drive Image. On my i7 system the data transfer rate seems to be averaging out at around 30-40 meg per second with this card. Hope this is of some help.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works for me Got this home and followed instructions in box. You have to download the driver from the Transcend website if using anything other than Win 8. I use win 7 64 bit and it installed ok. The card I got came with a molex and a sata power connector on board but you must make sure you have got spare connectors from your power supply as there are none supplied you can use either to power the board. Data transfer rates are well quicker than usb2 but you will only get full speeds with decent hard drives. Its backwards compatible with usb2 and transfer rates seem quicker with my old memory sticks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It Works. One Small Point to Make: 26th April 2015. I purchased this after reading the reviews. I noticed that more than one reviewer had mentioned that the drivers to download in the instruction booklet and website are the wrong way round. So, if you're connecting power via a SATA cable, download the other driver; and if you're not using a SATA cable, use the driver that the instruction booklet and website says is for SATA. The instruction booklet says you download the driver after haing installed the expansion card but there's no reason you can't download it beforehand. However, you do have to have connected the expansion card and power cable before you install the drivers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Driver download Works fine. When copying from an internal HDD to USB 3.0 disk in a housing I get speeds of around 65Mb/s. If you use Windows 7 there are two possible drivers to download, depending on which of the two power inputs you use on the card. These are the WRONG WAY ROUND on the web site - that is if you use the SATA power connection use the non-SATA driver and visa-versa. This only took me two hours to find out..... It won't work if you use the wrong driver.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Linux Driver As with everyone else, I wasted a few hours scratching head as to why it wouldn't work and kept giving timeout errors talking to the USB3 drive. Installed it in a Debian system, and appeared to work with standard kernel driver and no other messing about, except the stock driver only works with the SATA power connector, not the molex (which I had plenty of spare!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, but watch for the swapped drivers! I totally agree, with my predecessor: the drivers on the Transcend website are swapped OR they forgot to tell us to download the (newer) version 3.0.23, which MIGHT cover both methods of power supply. Anyway, with the a/m driver it works like a dream (on Windows 7 x64). Seems to be very stable, a far cry from my previous card (with a VIA chip), which had 3x USB3 and 1x eSATA3 and clearly couldn't cope when all this was connected. With this card, which I bought from Maplin on 29/12/2014, I get very decent speeds of 400 to 800 MB to 1 GB per second depending on the drive (as measured to/from an SSD internal drive connected via motherboard SATA3). Speed to/from a USB 3 SSD memory stick (128 GB Flash Voyager GTX from Corsair) was slower - 80-100 MB/s, but this is due to the limitations of the stick. This card is based on the RENESAS chip and in my 6-year old Dell sits in the simplest, shortest PCIe x1 slot, which I had no use for before. Excellent product!

Do you have any USB adapters that will fit a half height case?

Asked by: computerboy
On this occasion, Maplin does not stock a product that exactly meets your requirements, or indeed anything close enough to offer you as an alternative.

HI , is this adapter compatible for Dell inspiron 580?

as long as your PC has a PCIe x1 slot and is not a lo-profile or half height case then it should fit.

Asked by: cjkennedy
The cards are sourced from multiple sources so it would be impossible to guarantee which chipset would be present on the card.
