Add a power switch to any USB-powered project simply by plugging this between the USB power port and the USB cable. This is the most useful thing you never knew you needed! You'll want to pick up a bunch for your electronic projects.Comes with a USB A socket on one end and a USB A plug on the other. In between is an in-line switch that is rated for 2 Amps. The data lines are not connected through - this is a ground/5V power switch only! The switch is on the positive 5V line.If you have a device that uses the data lines to set the charge rate, this switch may not work, we use it for adding a 'hard power switch' to a Raspberry Pi."

No dimensions in the current description, what is the end-to-end length and distance from male connector to switch please?

Asked by: AntHover
This is approx 0.6m with 0.25 either side of the switch and 0.1 being the switch.

I have the dual USB charger from the RPI A kit supplied by Maplin. 2 .1 amp. Is this capable of being plugged into an RPI 2B which now annoyingly has a jack socket

Asked by: Shbin
I am sorry but the item in question does not support use in your intended application.

I have a USB powered GPS antenna which I wish to switch off when not using, I currently just remove the cable but this is causing wear to the port. Is this solely for for USB powered devices (eg. Desk Fan) or can data run through the cable too.

Asked by: Seamark
This item is only designed to allow power to pass through unfortunately we cannot guarantee it will work as a data cable.

Can I use this from a usb power outlet say tv or laptop to provide power for raspberry pi 2

Asked by: Daemonforce
Yes, but bear in mind the USB output to power the Pi 2 needs to be 5V @ 2.1 amps, it is unlikely a laptop or TV would provide this. This cable is designed to be used with a power supply to allow to the Pi to be turned off with ease as the Pi does not have a on / off switch.
