Rated 5 out of 5 by from A 25 year old alarm siren back in service We have a 25 year old alarm system, and the external siren box had taken a beating from the elements. When it was temporarily removed to allow our house to be painted the existing tamper switch almost fell to pieces. When a new siren box proved to be incompatible with our alarm system, the options were either a new alarm or repair the old siren. With nothing to loose, I opted to be a cheapskate and replace the tamper switch. This switch from Maplin is an exact replacement, and has done an excellent job of bringing the old siren back to life for minimum cost. My only complaints are firstly, that the switch comes with no instructions to explain what the three connectors do, especially as I only need to connect two of them. There are engraving's on the switch but they are impossible to read. Secondly, Maplin don't state in the description on the website what size the fixing holes are. This is quite important as the switch needs to be mounted securely to do it's job and I needed to source some screws and bolts from somewhere, so this was a bit of trial and error. Other than that I'm a very happy camper.

What force is needed to operate the switch and at what position on the lever has the force been measured?

Asked by: basher400
Sorry but that is not how the switch operates, typically the switch is mounted inside a device and is held closed by the device casing, the switch would be in a closed position, if the casing is opened the switch goes open circuit and the tamper alarm is triggered.
