Make a warning sign with this flashing LED kit (manufacturer’s code MK148) or use the two super-bright red LEDs that flash together to add extra lights to your models. You can set the speed they flash at with the potentiometer on the board and just slide the switch to turn it on and off. You can use these warning lights to mark the way to an exit in an emergency and set it so it only lights up when it becomes dark.
What can I learn about with this kit?
Practise soldering and learn about electronics and circuits with this flashing LED solder kit which uses resistors, capacitors, transistors, LEDs, a LDR (light dependent resistor) and potentiometers (variable resistors). Learn how they are connected in a circuit and get practical experience soldering them. The circuit uses transistors to alternate between the LEDs and the potentiometer (or variable resistors) vary the time they are on for. The LDR changes resistance when it gets lighter or darker and the circuit can use this to automatically turn the flashing lights on on when the light is below a certain level. This kit requires a soldering iron and solder and may require wire cutters.
How easy is this kit to solder?
Easy to solder, this kit is ideal for beginners learning about electronics. Putting the kit together is only the start. You could also create an enclosure (not included) for the flasher to protect the electronics or build it into a model. Just take care not to cover the LEDs, switches and LDR or obstruct access to the potentiometer if you want to be able to vary the timing. This kit runs off a DC 9V power supply and comes with a holder for a 9V (PP3) battery (battery not included).
