What can I do with this running lights kit?
Create a series of customisable running lights with this kit (manufacturer code MK107). The LEDs chase after each other in a pattern according to which program you use. The board has a PROG push switch that you can use to switch between patterns and a potentiometer to change the speed. Sized just 95mm x 40mm this kit can be fitted in almost anything. With 28 parts, it’s ideal for beginners.

What can I learn about with this solder kit?
Practice soldering and learn about electronics and circuits with this running light solder kit which uses resistors, capacitors, transistors, LEDs, potentiometers (variable resistors) and a microchip. Learn how the components are connected in a circuit and get practical experience soldering them. The circuit uses an integrated circuit (IC) chip or microchip to decide which LEDs light at any given moment, and you can use the PROG push button to change the setting. The speed at which the lights move is controlled by the potentiometer and there is also an on/off switch making this a great kit to show how to combine multiple inputs for great effects. This kit requires a soldering iron and solder and may require wire cutters.

How easy is this kit to solder?
Easy to solder, this kit is great for beginners learning about electronics or as a kit to combine with others to create your own projects. Have fun putting together your kit then you can expand on your project. You could create an enclosure (not included) for the circuit to protect the electronics or build it into a frame or display. This kit can run off a DC 8-12V power supply and comes with a holder for a 9V (PP3) battery (battery not included) which doubles as a stand.

Can this kit be programmed to simulate the binary sequence? (ie; 00000001 - 1, 00000010 - 2, 00000011 - 3, 00000100 - 4, 00000101 - 5, and so on). 1 is when the LED in the sequence is lit up and 0 is when its off.

Does the chip retain the memory of the last program used when turned off then on again, or does the program rotation just reset?

Asked by: Fred
The unit has no memory, if power is turned off the sequence begins from start when power is reapplied.
