Practice soldering and learn about electronics and circuits with this sound to light kit solder kit which uses resistors, capacitors, transistors, LEDs, potentiometers (variable resistors) and a microchip. Learn how the components are connected in a circuit and get practical experience soldering them. This kit combines circuit building with electronic component and basic programming to create your message. Use the buttons on the back of the display to set the characters there is even the possibility to leave pauses in your messages. The circuit has no memory and will reset every time it is switched off. This kit requires a soldering iron and solder and may require wire cutters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great, fun project The MK157 was a great project to put together. Although some of the components are quite close together and the pins connecting the LCD and main board are tricky to solder, it was a gratifying feeling to have a working message board, with a working memory. Any problems you come across with this kit are probably a mis-soldered component, so check your circuit to see what doesn't work. All in all, a fantastic kit at a fantastic price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The kit is probably one or not the best mini-kits to use and play with it works very well and the message memory, scrolling and pausing and spaces make it a good priced message board. Here at maplin it was Ј5 cheaper than anywhere else and defiantly worth buying. It could have done with a better manual and that is why I am giving it a 4 star rating.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Well, what can i say really? I would say i have the soldering skills to easily make this work and all went well untill i plugged the batteries. There was nothing appearing on the screen so i thought it was my mistake, i checked all my connections with a muli-meter and it all seemed right. Was a shame but i can't do anythink about it now. I won't give it 1 stars because it was fun while it lasted but it could of been better and maybe a better manual would of helped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Velleman MK157 LCD Excellent product. Fun to build and but not recommended for beginners. The wires connecting the LCD and PCB are tricky to solder a backlight can be fitted easily. When you take the battery out it will not save your message.
