I have an old Mac book pro, it is the last one with a CD drive I am wanting to buy an external hard drive for all my uni work and was wondering if this is easy to use on Mac. It says it would need reformatting and I'm not too sure what that is?

Asked by: katy
Yes this would be easy to use on a Mac. You can find many simple guides online on how to format a drive for Mac use.

Does this drive check for file changes between laptop/hard drive so that you can manually update ?

Asked by: Bluenose
Not on its own, you can pair it with backup software which can scan for specific files and folders and check whether your backup copies are up to date. Otherwise, dragging and dropping files will ask you for each file whether you wish to 'ignore', 'replace' or 'keep both' for files of the same name and type and you can manually go through and check the last modified dates for these files.
