Rated 2 out of 5 by from Drive doesn’t eject Bought the Mac version of this product. Don’t Install the WD Utilities software - it completely messed up my machine and had to uninstall it. Once utilities software was unistalled the drive wouldn’t eject correctly. The only way to eject it was to “force eject” which does the trick but clearly is not the correct way to eject and can cause data. While the drive does appear to be working correctly in terms of being able to add and remove files, I’m worried that it will corrupt given that it won’t eject correctly. Would not repurchase, given the option. Not impressed with WD given this storage device has been designed for the Mac.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Neat device for Mac Time Machine backup I bought this recently as a permanently connected device for use with Time Machine on my Macbook Pro. It worked straight away as expected and it is neat and easy to carry around. I do not have a huge amount of storage on the Mac, so offload anything that is not needed day to day onto the My Passport disc. That keeps the Mac running smoothly but still gives easy access to lots of data.

So, basically - pre-formatting for the Mac costs an extra £15 over the cost of the 'standard' Windows product? Seems like purchasing the latter and self formatting is a no brainer to me?

Asked by: Codmental
Yes, this is correct, however, in order for Western Digital to have the device tested and accredited for Macintosh on their product will incur costs to the manufacturer.
