Product overview

• Prewired with three metres of cable
• IP66 rated weatherproof for outdoor use
• Includes a RCD plug for additional safety

Where would I use this kit?
Plug in your mowers, pressure washers or trimmers and use electronic products outdoors with ease. The kit contains a 2 gang switched socket and a RCD plug to safely connect it to your household mains. The socket is IP66 rated weatherproof, with both sockets occupied with a high resistance to water and dust ingress. Both sockets have individual switches and an LED power indicator so you can see which sockets are drawing power even when the lid is down.

How easy is it to set up this kit?
The socket is prewired with 3m of cable that can be routed from the socket to the nearest mains access. Once you have the cable where you want it, attach the RCD plug and plug it into a 3-pin UK plug socket. The socket can be used with two plugs up to 13 amps and can be fitted on a wall or wherever is convenient. The socket is easy to get into, with a hinged translucent lid that latches shut to keep it secure.

What does RCD do?
An RCD (residual current device) safety adapter is a plug which sits between your equipment and your mains socket. It is designed to quickly cut power if there is a fault or a short in the device you are using, which reduces the risk of electrocution. RCDs can also provide some protection against electrical fires. They provide a level of personal protection that standard fuses and circuit breakers can’t.

Unfortunately, we would not be able to advise as this would require modification of the product which would void your warranty.

Is the RCD plug easy enough to dismantle - I need to drill a small hole to the outside, mount the external socket on the outside wall, and run the cable back through inside and put the plug back together?

Asked by: SMGLA
When purchased the outdoor twin box has a 3m length of cable on it that terminates with 3 trimmed wires (Live-Neutral-Earth) To assist with fitting the RCD plug is not attached to these wires, it is separate in the box. Typically you would choose an external location for the twin socket, mount it then drill the hole for the power cable to enter the property. Once you have routed the power cable into the property you can then connect the 3 trimmed wires into the RCD plug (instruction are provided). The RCD plug (the black plug with the test & reset buttons) is then plugged into a standard 13A wall socket. Whilst this kit can be fitted by anyone with minimal DIY skill we would always advise that if you are in anyway unsure about any aspect of the installation or wiring that you contract the services of a qualified electrician.
