What is the MiP?

Ready for a mechanical minion, a Segway servant or just a biomorphic buddy? MiP is the answer. Developed by WowWee and the UC Coordinated Robotics Lab, the MiP (Mobile Inverted Pendulum) is an autonomous, interactive robot that balances, performs tricks and has an immersive personality. MiP is able to navigate its surroundings and with its unique dual-wheel design it can move fast and make rapid turns and spins. Built to balance, the MiP has been designed with a gyroscope, which allows it to balance itself whilst moving or standing still. MiP communicates through motion, sounds and its animatic RGB LED eyes. It will react as you play games, expressing joy when winning a game, or sadness if you knock it over.

How can I play with MiP?

MiP’s inquisitive and responsive personality gives you a robot that is always eager for fun and games. Built with Gesturesense Technology, the MiP will respond and react to your hand movements, and you can use different hand gestures to command or play with the MiP. With just hand gestures you can move the MiP forwards, backward and steer left or right. The MiP will also respond to both sounds and will perform different reactions when you clap. You can have MiP recognise up to 50 separate movements and with ‘trick’ mode you can even teach MiP a routine of commands to perform.

MiP comes with a tray accessory, which can be used to balance items to test both your stacking skills and MiP’s balance. Able to hold multiple items, MiP can carry its own body weight. When in ‘stack’ mode you compete against a timer to stack as many items onto MiP before it spins around, tossing all the items back off the tray.

Other modes take advantage of MiP’s quick movements and IR sensor to play a competitive game of cat and mouse. In ‘cage’ mode, you must prevent MiP from escaping by blocking all exits with your hand. In ‘dance’ mode, MiP will bust out its dance moves to your favourite music you have uploaded to the app

MiP is equipped with Bluetooth technology and can communicate wirelessly with a number of smart devices via a free app. The MiP app works with Apple devices running iOS 7.0 or later and Android 4.3 devices.

The intuitive app enables you to interact and control MiP in a number of ways. You can directly drive MiP around with digital touch screen controls, or even trace out a path for MiP to follow.

can mip carry a can of coke on the tray or a mug of tea

Asked by: blue fish 2
MiP comes with a tray accessory, which can be used to balance items to test both your stacking skills and MiP’s balance. Able to hold multiple items, MiP can carry its own body weight. ( 350 grammes) a standard can of soft drink is 330ml of liquid plus the weight of the container (approx 330 grammes) You would need to weigh the mug and contents to make sure it does not exceed the stated maximum weight.
