What is an inverter?
An inverter is a converter that connects to a sealed lead acid (SLA) battery that is usually connected to a car, a truck or a solar panel. The inverter can connect to the battery either through a car accessory plug or by clipping directly to the battery. You can then plug a mains powered device directly into the inverter’s AC socket. Inverters vary in capacity and can power devices of up to a specific wattage. Inverters can be split into two categories: pure sinewave and modified sinewave.

What makes this inverter unique?
This Xantrax inverter connects to your car battery using the supplied alligator clips. Its compact design allows you to place the inverter where it is needed without becoming a hazard. The inverter can power a device up to 700W, such as your television or gaming laptop. It is highly efficient, converting 90% of its energy into output power. The inverter includes shutdown protection to power down the inverter if the battery power drops below a certain level.

What is the difference between pure sinewave and modified sinewave?
All household mains sockets output a sinewave along the cable to transfer power from the source, such as the battery or socket the product is plugged in to. This product is a pure sinewave inverter which produces the same quality energy as a household mains socket, unlike a modified sinewave inverter which produces an approximation. A pure sinewave inverter can power electronics such as motors, power tools or clocks, including products with more sensitive component parts. Unlike a modified sinewave inverter, there will be no electrical interference using a pure sinewave inverter, improving a user’s experience with this type of product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top notch piece of kit at a reduced cost. Great improvement on my old deceased pure sine wave inverter. Quality of output is excellent - no background noise from surround sound. Runs cool and quiet, high efficiency. Very fast delivery.

Will this inverter run 2 battery chargers rated at 230v 1.5a each?

Asked by: Devus
While the required wattage is technically in range, it is good practice with inverters to allow 10% for inefficiencies in the power transfer which would put your two chargers over the 700W limit. We would recommend a 1000W inverter to cover the load required by your chargers. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-12v-pure-sinewave-1000w-inverter-a34jy
