Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the most awesome piece of equipment I have purchased in quite a while. It looks and feels like a professional piece of gear and turns out audio files of excellent quality both from the selectable microphone array and from the line in socket. Takes a short while to learn all the features but is very intuitive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a fantastic piece of recording hardware, simple to use, crystal-clear recordings and very robust. A brilliant addition to anyone's recording armoury, long battery life and compact too. An excellent piece of gear for an unbeatable price. Highly recommended for the beginner or professional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its not a Marantz in build quality...but The is the best value for money recorder on the market. I have 4 of these little babies. It has lived up to knock and bumps and everyday recording. Hi quality recording and easy playback. We use them for general sound recording and oral histories. Outstanding value. I use the older discontinued version and I'm looking for a new one for teaching basic sound design. You won't regret buying this new version if it as good as the older one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought a B grade model of the H2n this week, the only clue to it not being brand new was the "B Grade" label on the box. All the contents were perfect and in sealed bags as if untouched. I took the trouble to download and install the latest firmware from Zoom's website (upgraded from 1.0.0 to 1.2.0) I used it for the first time to record my band (pop and indie covers) at a pub gig last night. I simply set the compressor and limiter to "concert" mode and hit the record button. I didn't bother to try and set the gain, just left it on auto. Reviewing the recordings on my hi-fi this morning. Very impressed! Excellent clear crisp recording at a good level, with just a hint of limiter kicking in from time to time as you'd expect given the varying sound level of the stuff we play. This is definitely taking over from my old minidisc recorder for capturing gigs, it's more convenient and there's no need to change discs half way through! I used a 16Gb SD card but even the supplied 2Gb micro-SD would have been big enough: 2 and a quarter hours of 2 channel recording used about 1.3Gb. Thoroughly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Speedy delivery and nice upgrade Within half an hour of ordering with fast delivery the device arrived. Already having the older H2 version I can see how they have improved features and what not. Sadly the accessories are optional so I need to buy the USB cable now.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Audio Recording Swiss Army Knife - but - Ugh!!!! awful menu design Been using H2n for two years. Positive: Excellent built-in features (that really do work) such as 3 auto record modes, and limiters. No distortion from the 3.5mm line-output, even if recording has been normalized and output vol is 100%. Will accept your favourite wav or Mp3 tracks via USB copy from your PC and plays files like a media player. Stereo separation in all modes is stunning. Negative: Awful user interface, menus and sub-menus badly laid out, making it hard to find what your looking for. Screen resolution very low, making reading difficult. Suffers badly from bodyshell handling noise while recording. Tripod bush will wear prematurely and no way to insert a replacement. Would I purchase this product again? I would if Zoom would address screen resolution and have a long hard look at menu design. Otherwise would seek out other products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome and Easy This was recommended by oral history professionals and for 3 weeks I have found it a pleasure to use. Intuitive, very user-friendly, top quality piece of equipment.

i want to use zoomH2 with my computer running Windows 7. Is this possible? Will Wndws & handle WAV and MP3?

Asked by: john
Yes, I use Win7 Home Premium and connect H2n via USB. You may have calibrate the recording levels between the H2n and the recording software. This means that if a sound registers -6db on the H2n then it should read -6db on the recording software. This how I done it. 1) Connect H2n to PC and make sure that sounds are registering on recording software. 2) Adjust H2n recording level by speaking into it and adjust level to about -6db. 3) Continue speaking into H2n, and cast an eye between H2n and software noting the levels of both. 4) If the recording software reads under or over then adjust to match H2n. NOTE: THE SOFTWARE THAT COMES WITH H2n HAS NO VISIBLE MEANS TO ADJUST LEVELS, AND CALIBRATION MUST BE DONE VIA SOUND-CARD. 1) Right click on volume icon in System Tray. 2) Highlight and click Recording devices 3) "Sound" dialog box will appear, and the "Recording tab prominent. 4) Should read "Microphone H2n". 5) Highlight and click properties. 6) "Microphone Properties" dialog box will appear. 7) Click "Levels" tab. 8) Adjust slider to about 3 and click OK. 9) Go back H2n and repeat speech test, again keeping eye on both levels. 10) If software reads under or over repeat adjustment again on slider (8). NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN EXACT SCIENCE, THERE MAY BE A VARIANCE OF -2db or + 2db. Hope this helps. ps I use Audacity 2.1.3 and you can fine tune levels too incredible accuracy.
