Keeping your loved ones safe

When you’re at work or out of the house, it’s important to know that your family are safe and sound. With a smart camera, you can quickly and easily check that the kids have got home after school, or that your nan is comfortable in her favourite armchair.

Certain smart cameras, like the Nest Cam Security Camera offer two-way communication. So, if you’re out of the house or in another room within your home, you can talk to your family through your smartphone.

Other options, like the Canary 1080p Day and Night All-in-One IP Camera, include HomeHealth technology, allowing you to monitor the air quality, temperature and humidity of the room. This means you can always make sure that your family are living in a safe and comfortable environment.

The Ring Video Doorbell is another interesting option, as it functions as regular doorbell/intercom that you monitor on your smartphone or tablet. It will even send you notifications whenever it detects someone at your front door, so you’ll be able to know when your kids have arrived home safely after school.

Making sure your home is safe when you’re out of the house is incredibly important. Smart cameras give you the ability to check on your house by simply opening your camera’s app on your smartphone or tablet.

Most smart cameras are equipped with motion detectors, so you’ll receive notifications and alerts directly to your smartphone or tablet whenever your camera picks up any movement. So, you can then quickly open your camera feed and make sure everything is as it should be.

The Canary 1080p Smart Camera, is equipped with a 90db siren that can be manually activated if you detect something wrong in your house. Or it can be armed to activate automatically, when the Canary picks up any motion.

Smart cameras aren’t only for monitoring the inside of your house. If you’re looking for a camera more suited for outdoor security, you can pick up the Canary Flex Waterproof Camera or the Motorola Focus 73. One thing to note about outdoor smart cameras is that you will need a very strong Wi-Fi connection for them to be able to work properly, so if you’re looking for a full outdoor CCTV set up you might be better going for a wired option.

Keeping an eye on your Pets

Got a new puppy? Or a dog that doesn’t like to be home alone? With a smart camera, you can quickly check that they’re behaving when you’re out of the house.

As a smart camera like the Nest Camera has the ability for two-way communication, which means you can even talk to your pet to make sure they’re okay and reassure them when you’re out of the house.

CCTV or Smart Cameras?

A great way to improve the security of your home is by setting up CCTV, but this can sometimes be a very lengthy task that requires a wired set up. However, it can be a good decision if you’re looking at an outdoor security option and don’t have a great wireless internet connection. We offer a CCTV installation service to take the hassle out of installing and setting up your CCTV kit.

Smart cameras (Sometimes known as IP cameras) are a cost-effective solution and are relatively easy to set up. All you’ll need to do is plug in your smart camera to the mains, connect it to your wireless network and download the app on your smartphone or device. You are then able to easily monitor activity in your home, wherever you are.

What it’s worth considering

If you already have some smart home devices set up in your home, it’s worth seeing if they can work in conjunction with one another.

The Nest Cam makes a great addition to your smart home system if you have other Nest products installed, as it can connect to them. For example; if you have Nest compatible lighting installed in your home such as Phillips Hue or LIFX and you connect it to your other Nest products, the Nest Cam will automatically turn off the lights when it notices you aren’t at home. It can even go a step further and turn on the lights when it notices someone is near your house, to put off unwanted visitors or welcome you back home at night.
