Why should I buy this Dash Cam?
The NextBase 202 Lite is an excellent choice for recording events on the road in 720p HD quality, helping to reduce insurance quotes and assisting with making a claim. With the built-in infrared LED’s, you will also get great quality recordings when driving at night. You can watch a recording back on the 2.7 inch built-in screen to review any events that have happened. The built-in G-sensor will allow the Dash Cam to record any impacts or sudden course changes so that the events is protected on the memory card. The parking mode will allow the optical sensor to activate the Dash Cam, even if the car is empty. While recording, the screen blacks out to prevent the Dash Cam from becoming a distraction to the driver. The Dash Cam also records the date and time directly onto all recordings to prevent any dispute.

How do I use this Dash Cam?
This Dash Cam uses a class 10 SD card, between 2GB and 32GB (not included), to record any event. A 32GB memory card will give you approximately four hours recording time. When the memory card becomes full, an auto loop function will allow the Dash Cam to begin recording over existing video files in chronological order. Once the memory card is installed, the Dash Cam can be suction mounted directly onto the windscreen and is powered by a built-in battery or the in-car power supply. The Dash Cam will then automatically turn on and start recording when the engine is started.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera, good value. This camera is easy to set up, works well , and best feature I found is that when it is reset ( for any reason) you can obtain all the settings that appertain to that reset, (through on line guide book, individual settings ( if required,) are easy to follow.) for the inexperienced -- just plug in and away you go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good overall dash camera I purchased this product just a few days ago from my local Maplin store. This is a very small camera when compared to the size of the knock-off DVR-207 dashcam that I purchased at the back end of last year from a supposedly reputable online company, and takes up much less space on the windscreen. However, this camera has its pros and cons like most products, so here's a run-down on what I have already found and experienced. It records in a clear 1280 x 720 mode onto a 32gb class 10 Sandisk full-size SDHC card (the one I purchased for and removed from the DVR-207), although the onboard microphone leaves a lot to be desired. The 202 Lite plugs into the 12v/cigarette lighter socket and switches on as soon as the car ignition becomes active but, although it is designed to switch off again when the car is switched off, care needs to be taken that the plug is removed fully from the 12v socket if it's not designed to cut out when the car keys are back in your pocket. The filming is captured in segments of 2.02 minutes each, even though I set it to capture at 3 minute intervals. That's not a major problem for me, per se, but it is something to be aware of, perhaps for editing purposes. All car registration plate numbers in the immediate vicinity of the camera's lens scope can be easily read during play-back and the camera seems to cope quite well with light and shade, for instance going from bright sunlight to thick overhead tree shading and vice-versa. I have also noticed a slight overlap between captures, presumably to avoid missing something at a crucial moment. The instructions could be a lot better and even the printable pdf instructions on the Nextbase website managed to get a crucial part wrong; by this, I mean that I couldn't get the date and time to change when setting the camera up, and an extra trip back to the store revealed that the printed mention of using the 'OK' button to toggle is incorrect and it should read 'MENU'. Knowing that now makes a big difference. But, my main gripe, if it can be called that, is the fact that I purchased a nice Nextbase pouch at the same time for my camera to rest in when it isn't 'on duty', but the whole thing has been negated because, once the rubber suction bracket has been slid onto the top of the camera, it is impossible to get the thing off again without potentially breaking it (it's made of plastic) meaning that, when the camera is in the pouch, I can't close the flap! Overall, this camera is good and will no doubt do an appropriate job with any 'cover-your-back' situations in relation to spurious 'accidents' and 'whiplash' claims by others. I would have given full marks had it not been for that rubber suction bracket refusing to be detached after use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Next Base 202 Maplins web site states that the 202 has GPS....Nope does not...Bad form.? The USB power connector is at the top of the unit so if you have a sloping windscreen it wont fit and the cable hangs down over the lens or the screen. I purchased a 10 speed SD Card for recording because of the fast write speed however time laps is an issue. Taking it back today!!

The first question refers to overnight recording, your answer is no, but the spec says the camera has "parking mode, activated by optical motion sensors" so how does this work?

Asked by: Shaun 285
Below, please see the explanation of the parking mode ; Some dash cams with this feature will automatically engage parking mode when they detect that the ignition has been turned off. To save on memory and power consumption the camera will usually engage a motion detection function and only record video when it detects movement, such as a car or a pedestrian passing within it’s field of view. Also, if the camera detects that the car has moved, either from a collision, or by someone tampering with it, it will again record a video to capture as much evidence as possible.

How long does it record/recycle before it records the next image. As I bought a dash cam that recorded for only 3 minutes at a time.

Asked by: JoeZub
This item will use approximately 3.90 GB per hour on the default settings, So this would last 8.2 hours. The card used needs to be Class 6-10 & a max size of 32GB.
