Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very pleased with the USB V&A Grabber . Using my laptop with Windows7 connected to old video recorder and recorded videos to my external drive, played back onto my TV using HDMI and picture quality was brilliant. Down side to this product is the installation CD, had to make 3 attempts before the software and the driver was fully working however noticed that every time I open the software's interface the windows 7 reverts back to its basic display for some reason ... very strange but still I'm amazed at the quality of the videos I have transferred so far which I was more worried about more than anything else and this product has not disappointed me in that respect.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sadly, despite trying on two different PCs, one running XP the other Win7, I have not been able to make a single good transfer. It does not work on Linux at all. The AVI format gives excellent picture and sound. The format of 352x288 is OK if a little small but at just under 20GB/hr the files are simply too large to be usable. The next step down (DVD 720x576) gives good quality picture and excellent sound but they lose sync and on playback and there are noticeable jumps in the picture as it catches up with the audio regardless of which player is used. The SVCD (480x576) and VCD (352x288) file types also suffer from the loss of sync and the SVCD distorts the picture shape. The loss of picture quality becomes an issue when viewing in full-screen mode. The MPG4 (352x288) is very poor and pixelates badly on any picture more than a few inches in size. The supplied software makes a habit of crashing ungracefully during playback of any files it has previously recorded. As a result all of my viewing was done with several other movie players (windows media player, movie player, kaffeine). Overall I would say it is only suitable for capturing short clips that do not require good A/V sync. I shall be returning my unit tomorrow for a refund as it is not suitable for transferring my stock of > 300 VHS to Hard Disk drive files. Possibly a software re-write would fix the problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The device is very easy to set up, with secure physical connections, and am able to get a pretty good signal through to record. VHS transfers is my reason for buying this. The supplied EZGrabber software is easy to use, but it doesn't offer much control of each capture mode. Incidentally even DVD mode which offers the highest possible resolution (720x576) is not recommended as I suspect it is set for smallest file size which degrades quality. On the plus side, you can choose between capturing a still image, or start/stop recording video with the dongle's button. A bright blue LED on the dongle flashes during recording so you know something is going on. There is a decent choice of capture formats. Luckily I have a couple of other video editing software apps (Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 and Pinnacle Studio 11) both of which detect and work with this A/V grabber. Using my almost 4 year old XP based PC, I was able to grab an hour of full PAL (25fps 720x576) video without any problems. Windows XP's own Movie Maker detects the dongle but I haven't used it to do any captures yet so unable to comment. Overall, a pretty decent piece of kit for the money, but I hope the EZGrabber software is updated to allow better quality captures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased with this device. Using a laptop on Windows7 connected to old video recorder. Just completed transfer of son's wedding from VHS to DVD. Excellent quality, played straightaway on a TV. My son very impressed with software even though it is quite complex. Etremely good value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not yet fully explored its capabilities. Tried it on two PCs, one running XP the other W7. W7 USB didn't detect a new device plugged in. Got it to eventually work with XP after driver installation difficulties - possibly due installing over LAN. Apart from that it does what I wanted it to do

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I agree with what NF said- video and audio out of sync - makes playing the captured movie useless- will be returning for my cash back. Using windows7 64bit, 4g ram i5 2.4 ghz processor- so cant blame a good spec laptop. maybe ok for short clips - but I am looking to full length movies.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from compact fuctional and an unexpected extra I've had this a week or so and so far transferred about 3 hours of old home video to the computer and from there to SD cards. I transferred a commercially purchased film as well just to check the quality the graininess I'd noticed with the home video wasn't visible on this so its a quality issue with the original material not the device The bonus was the software that came with it resurrected an old TV tuner card and the capture software will happily record live TV to the hard disc. Only snags are it comes without connecting cables you need either an s-video cable or a 3 phono plug to what ever connection your play back device has. Luckily I already had a scart to phono plug lead in the box with the video recorder I'm using, and Maplins also sell lose cable and plugs so you can easily make one if you haven't got the right lead. Its other problem is it doesn't seem to like video being cued up through it prior to recording, and the application needs closing and restarting if you try to do this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from didn't really do the job for me I bought this product to copy some video tapes I had onto dvds but it wasn't at all successful. Don't really know if it was me or the equipment, or both, after hours of deliberating I just gave up. Hence I can't quantify if it was any good!

where does this store the videos it captures?

Asked by: keoni936
You would connect this to a PC or Laptop and use the included software to capture the video onto the hard drive of that device. The capture path can be set in the software to save to a specific location.

Will I be able to use this to record any Xbox or PS4 Videos. For YouTube?

Asked by: Jwilliams123
This is designed for older analogue equipment, such as VHS players or camcorders and would not be suitable for current digital only consoles. For game capture we would recommend devices designed for such a task like the item below.
