What is a Bluetooth to WiFi Gateway?

The Shelly Bluetooth to Wi-Fi gateway bridges the gap between your Bluetooth devices and your Wi-Fi network, enabling remote access, app control, and smart home integration from anywhere.

Bluetooth devices are limited by range and can't communicate directly with the internet. A Shelly gateway picks up signals from nearby Bluetooth sensors and relays them over Wi-Fi — no extra hub required, as many Shelly Wi-Fi devices double up as gateways automatically.

Perfect for monitoring temperature, humidity, door/window contacts, and more — all within one seamless ecosystem.

FAQ

What is the Shelly Bluetooth to Wi-Fi gateway?

The Shelly Bluetooth gateway is a device that acts as a bridge between Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices and your Wi-Fi network. This allows Bluetooth-only devices — such as sensors and other BLE gadgets — to be monitored and controlled remotely via the Shelly app or your smart home system, even when you're away from home.

Which devices are compatible with the Shelly Bluetooth gateway?

The gateway is primarily designed to work with Shelly's own BLE devices, such as the Shelly BLU range of sensors and button devices. Compatibility with third-party Bluetooth devices may vary.

Why do I need a Bluetooth gateway?

Bluetooth has a limited range and cannot connect directly to the internet. The gateway bridges this gap by receiving signals from nearby Bluetooth devices and passing that data over your Wi-Fi network, giving you remote access and smart home integration.

What is the Bluetooth range of the gateway?

The typical Bluetooth Low Energy range is up to approximately 30–40 metres in open space, though walls and other obstructions will reduce this. For larger properties, multiple Shelly devices with gateway functionality can be used to extend coverage.
